Delivering the DFW Market?

OK Mean Green nation, we are on ESPNU for the Memphis game.  Some of the faithful will make the road trip, but most will have the opportunity to watch on an ESPN linear channel on a college football Saturday night.  ESPN opted to show South Dakota State at North Dakota State on the Deuce instead of our game.  Ouch.  The numbers change on a monthly basis, but ESPN/ESPN2 has roughly 70M subscribers.  ESPNU is a little over half of that at 36M subscribers.  By comparison, ESPN+ is right around 25M subscribers.  Not sure how many of these reside in the DFW area.  I suspect that some of the published ESPN/ESPN2 viewership numbers come from people that stumble upon a game while channel surfing or just have the channel tuned in most of the day in the background.  Contrast that to viewers that actually seek out a game to watch on ESPNU.  Not sure if that's how it work, but that's kinda my viewing habit.  I only tune into the U when there is something specifically on there that I want to watch.  Thinking about it like this, should we consider the viewership numbers for our games on the U as a truer indication of our ability to "deliver the DFW" market?

Whatever the case, we're up against some stiff competition again this week.  Here's the schedule of games starting around the same time with the big draw being #5 Georgia at #1 Texas.

Interesting stuff. I guess ESPN gets the numbers on how many view a game on +?

How will we ever beat the dozens of people who have the SMU game circled on their schedule??

Our dozens are way better than their dozens...

Sadly, I'd venture that more people with UNT degrees and credit hours will be tuning into the Texas-Georgia game to root on "their" team down in Austin than would dare to even look at our score.
