Wait, so you can fire a coordinator mid-season, replace from within and hope that things turn for the better?

blasphemy.

Early in my health care sales I inherited a sales district as their new manager. A few years later when I started my sales agency I decided that if my performance was based upon the performance of others  I was going to hire the others. Whether they accept it or not head football coaches are held to the same standard and must replace non performers less they caused you to be replaced. I don't think Purdue's or O.U.'s offensive struggles will go away but it did make their O.C.'s accountable which is something our head coach seems unwilling to do as regards our D.C.

Are you sure of the circumstances at North Texas?

You should definitely run your program on “hope.”

All this really says is BV is starting to feel the heat. It’s desperation from a head coach who doesn’t have his team ready to compete in the SEC.

Did Seth Littrell taking the Oklahoma OC job affect the remaining money he was owed by UNT?

The money we owe him was deducted by his salary at OU.  This firing hurt UNT because we will now be eligible to turn what we owe him to the full amount.  This is not a good day for Seth or UNT athletics honestly. We both lose big time.

How can this come back on us? He got a job paying him close to, if not more than what we were paying him. Does the contract state that if he is fired from that job that we have to start paying him again? I don't think anyone would write a contract like that.

Head coaches fire Coordinators for their own job security.  And they need to when it involves poor performance like Seth or Matt Caponi.

I think so.

He signed a $1 million contract with OU, who owes him the balance. It has been my understanding that UNT  would owe him the difference if his OU contract paid him less. I think Littrell had only a 1 year contract but am not sure. However he probably will get a coaching job next year and the same payment rules would apply. As I stated this is my understanding of how the process works.

'Hope' was a poor choice of words on my part and not a lot of thought put into it.   but you and everyone else knew the point I was making.

So BV didn't make this change to try to improve an underperforming unit?   Whether it saves his job or not is irrelevant.   The offense didn't meet a standard that they expect and making a change was necessary to improve what ails them.   BV, like every other HC, owes it to the program to always put program first and do what is necessary to be successful.

Based on some of you here I guess the Oklahoma coach just does not realize making a mid-season change brings nothing to the table and probably hurts recruiting and harmony of the team.

Firing a coordinator is a temporary reprieve. They kept the co-oc. BV is in serious trouble. Offense has been bad his entire tenure.

Meh, he’s just using SL as a way to create a little breathing room because his seat is on fire. Their fanbase wanted Finley, their new play caller, gone too. We will see how it plays out. I’m not convinced it’s going to get any better, because they just don’t have the talent they need to compete. BV knows that. This is all smoke and mirrors.

I was not a fan of Seth but right now OU has their top five receivers out and most of their offensive line has been banged up. So if we want to make reasons why we struggle we can't overlook when another team loses this much depth.

Yep, OU doesn't have the personnel to compete in the SEC.  Can't fire the team, so someone has to go.  Venables is next and it could be at the end of the season.  Some guys are just good coordinators, and not meant to be a HC.
