“The NCAA fully supports college athletes profiting from their NIL, but unfortunately there is little oversight or accountability in the NIL space and far too often promises made to student-athletes are broken,” the NCAA said in a Wednesday statement without specifically mentioning Sluka or UNLV.

Well maybe if the controlling organization (now, who could that be???) hadn't ceded all power to a few schools and conferences, then maybe there would have been some oversight and accountability.

Thanks for the article link!

I found this quote regarding NIL interesting.

Quote

Sam Houston's NIL money doesn't really go to transfers. Keeler remembers talking to three transfers on a visit when the portal opened last winter. They wanted to negotiate money. He told them: "You're at the wrong place." Those NIL dollars, the few Sam Houston has, goes to leaders on the team who meet academic and social requirements.

It essentially points out that current NIL has NOTHING to do with "Name, Image, Likeness".  NIL was intended to let the players have a portion of the revenue generated by the use of their "N,I,L".  The fact that there are pre-existing pools of money and that others have control over how this money is allocated shows that this is absolutely not the case.

Was about to comment. The offense looked pretty decent early on. Defense looks fired up too. We'll see how this second half progresses.

So you are complaining that we're not as obsessed with UH football as you are with North Texas football?

Also, if I might add, please understand that most of us are OK seeing the University of Houston football team do well. It's just you that we think is an idiot.

So you think I’m talking smack to other UNT fans about Houston’s uniforms???

Houston started to look like Fritz ball tonight. Cougar now has 2 wins. Raise a toast CQ and savor the evening.  Good win over Sonny. Fort Worth looks bored directionless.

I wonder why we aren’t being more creative raising funds since we are way behind the curve.

The Bearkats lack a large outside collective. Almost all money is generated in-house. A lot of that is being creative with stipends and awards that are allowed within NCAA rules, generating the money to pay for them via avenues like an auction for fans. Barnes spearheaded an event this summer that featured 25 in-demand items, including things like all-access passes to away games. Fans shadowed the team every step of the way during tips to Rice and Texas State; a few thousand dollars raised that can be funneled toward retention.
