Here's a pretty good article on Graham's history and why he was fired: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/how-ex-purdue-offensive-coordinator-graham-harrell-went-from-hot-coaching-name-to-midseason-firing/

Quote

Graham Harrell was once college football's next big thing. A record-shattering quarterback at Texas Tech that played in, and studied under, Mike Leach's innovative Air Raid offense, Harrell went into coaching after a brief stint at the professional level and earned his first offensive coordinator gig at just 31 years old.

But now, he's been cast out as Purdue's offensive coordinator four games into his second season with the program. He is the first Power Four coordinator to get the axe in 2024, with Purdue -- which fell to 1-3 after a Week 5 loss to Nebraska -- being his third school since 2021.

Yeah. No wonder. This just came up on the interwebs: ALDF in 2021 sued the USDA over its decision to approve the label for Perdue's "Fresh Line" chicken products, saying that its pictures of chickens in an open pasture were misleading because the company's chickens in fact spend their lives in overcrowded warehouses.

Fun fact... but simultaneously....how in the good lords Kentucky fried chicken is that remotely relevant?

Somehow, I was able to break the number one rule of the interwebs: Never Post During Happy Hour!

I would rather, if Morris were hired away, elevate Davis from OC, Brophy from QB to OC or Cobbs to HC with Davis and Brophy staying put.

I don't really care if you vote up, down, smiley, don knotts, RV, or whatever you see fit, but how about providing a counterpoint as to why you don't like my thought above?

Boise St. built their program with continuity.  Going back to 1998, Boise St. has had six head coaches.

98 - 2000:  Dirk Koetter who was hired away from Oregon where he was their OC.

01-05: Dan Hawkins promoted from OC when Hawkins left for AZ St.

06-13: Chris Petersen promoted from OC when Hawkins left for Colorado.

14-20: Bryan Harsin, not really a promotion from within, but he returned to Boise where he had served as an assistant under Petersen.  He had been on the BSU staff from '01 to '10, left to serve at UT under Mack  Brown from '11 to '12 and was then hired as the HC at AR St. for the '13 season.  Still a coach with close ties to the program and a history of coaching there.

21-23: Andy Avalos, former player and assistant coach at Boise St.  Was let go after compiling a record of 22-14.

23-present: Spencer Danielson promoted from DC.

The constant is the ties to the program, understanding where they are, the limitations, the history and culture, etc.  We seem to always look outside for the new shiny things when continuity might be the best option.  If you disagree, great.  Tell me why and what you would like to see done.

I definitely don’t hate this idea. This is one way to build a culture, when you have consistency along the lines and growing your own coaches. Too often we see things as greener on the other side of the fence. If we develop our own identity, people/recruits would be able to associate themselves better to what we offer.

Purdue failed to reach at least 100 yards rushing in two of its four games, and 18 drives ended in a three-and-out in its last three games.

Seems like GH just isn't the same without having a bit of help from Patrick Cobbs.

We hired Cobbs for the 2019 season...right after Harrell left after the 2018 season.

Choice is such a good coach. I remember being so sad when he left and then I saw we got Cobbs and I was really excited. So glad Morris kept Cobbs.

You look at what Eric Morris did at WSU with 1/4 the budget! I really believe Morris is establishing himself as the next qb guru. Even if UNT is a stop over to rehab careers for qb’s this could still be a big advantage for UNT. If we loose Chad do we look at the SMU kid and the OU guy who both have been demoted. Coach can spot qb talent which is huge!!!!

It's hard to question Eric's abilities however if we don't do something about the defense, and that is his responsibility, we will be wasting a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball.

It was mentioned many times during the Memphis game that C. Morris had begun to hate the game and rediscovered his passion for it when he came to UNT.  I would be surprised to see him move along.  I think we get him for another year.

His fall from grace is odd imo. I credit him with our offensive success in the early Littrell era. I think he got a raw deal at WV. Neal Brown is still HC and I think he threw Harrell under the bus. Brown is 29-29 as HC at WV.

Looking at the scores for 2023 and 2024, it doesn't look bad on offense for most games (not including Ohio State or other power houses). Score doesn't always show offensive prowess but they gave up 38 points to Oregon State this year. I think this is another thrown under the bus situation.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Harrell thought that might be the case with SL and moved on.

and Brown was shown asking if people had a good time at the game.  It's all about the W Neal.  Wake up.

Can Graham Harrell coach defense?

Asking for an alma mater…

Graham has been on the offensive side of the ball for his entire life, gets fired for coaching a failing offense, and you want to see if he can coach defense?
