Actually my DMN had nothing about any game that kicked off later than 6:00. And yes, its a homer paper just like the Ft. Worth Star Telegram is about TCU. What should we expect? SMU is Dallas's team. Just look at their uniforms.

Someone please tell me why SMU and others get most of the coverage in the DMN sports page??? UNT is literally on the back page before high school coverage…I subscribe to the DMN and have for many years; my question is: UNT is a home town team as much as SMU, we have many more alumni that live in the DFW area than SMU could ever hope to have. I would say the home town teams in the DFW area are: SMU, UNT and TCU…please write the editor of the sports department as I have, reminding him, we’re here and we should be equally recognized as much as SMU and TCU. We have more alumni than SMU and TCU combined…FYI, the editor and others email address is listed on the second page on the DMN.

But they're in the ACC!  Its like a Power-ish conference as long as we pretend the P4 isn't really just the P2, the Pretender2, and the rest of us G6'ers.

Let's agree to disagree . It worked well with my x-wife. In my opinion UNT is no more a Dallas home town team that it is in FT.Worth. If we were would the level of coverage that SMU and TCU get in their home towns.

Perhaps I am naive, but I would think that a large circulation that DMN has they would be more balanced.

By this logic I should see news about UT-D’s chess team on the DMN front page.  They’re Dallas adjacent and people care about them just as much as they do SMU

The local DFW media is just all in for both SMU and TCU to do well. I think it’s actually because so many are alums here of UNT, but it embarrasses them. The other day, for example, on the Ticket, with both George Dunham and Craig Miller listening to their guest, Brian Jones, the CBS Sports college guy they have on weekly, Jones called us North Texas State, as in Texas Tech murdered North Texas State. Neither of those guys even corrected it, just kept listening.

Think of the average North Texas grad. They probably don’t even care or follow our teams. They probably loathe the existence of the program that they had to pay for as a student, which they are still paying on. If they like sports, they’re all in on some Power Team. And the ones in DFW have some dream that they wished of going somewhere like SMU or TCU. It is what it is…

I’m sure there are stats to prove or disprove this, but I would suspect there’s way more exposure to school social media posts than what the DMN or Star Telegram put out anyway. Unless someone I know links to it, I don’t think I ever go to either source for any kind of news.

Hell, while driving up to the tt watching party, I was listening to the ticket. They were reading off all of the local teams and their upcoming games for the day. Well, not really ALL of the local teams.

Well if all these 10's of thousands of UNT grads in the metroplex actually cared about out athletics perhaps we would get more ink. Regarding UT-D's chess team, I read in the Tyler newspaper [front page] they they lost in a match with an East Texas checkers team who wore red and black flannel shirts. Evidently the chess team, in black tails ,felt over dressed and out of place which caused they to lose concentration.

On Tuesdays during the CFB season, the Ticket covers the big games of interest. At the very, very end of the segment on the morning show, if UNT is mentioned, which is about 50%, it’s George givng his opinion in about 10 seconds, which is 10 more than the afternoon show gives us. Again, the entire program exists in the giant shadow of power schools and we can barely get a mention. We lost the one game that matters to these people so I guess that does it for UNT football coverage for the entire year.

DFW area football culture is front running.  As the sports culture in general.  People forget the only reason that meat gazing owner could afford to buy the team was that it was losing money.  Not having a losing season for a decade was not enough to keep a few home games being blacked out locally because they sucked.

So there is some hostility among UNT alumni towards a program that never wins big.  And a lot of them don't understand how CFB works.  I am sure the AD would love to have a out of conference schedule rotation of playing Texas Tech, Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, OSU, Houston, Arkansas one those 7 teams every year.  And they probably would settle an away and "neutral field" (at Jerry World) arrangements with Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and A&M.   Those "blue bloods" don't want to do that because eventually they will lose a game and maybe some team depth to us via transfer portal later as fallout.  You see a guy like Morris having fun lighting up the scoreboard against your team while you are 3rd string at Big Stuff U watching thinking "coming out of high school I was better than him",  the step down doesn't  seem so far to get playing time.

I don't subscribe to the DMN, but it's fairly simple.

SMU is located 4 miles from downtown Dallas & the DMN

TCU is in Ft Worth, 32 miles from downtown Dallas & the DMN

UNT is in Denton, 40 miles from downtown Dallas & the DMN

This is a bananas thread. The DMN coverage isn't based on number of miles from Dallas city limits. SMU is magically getting much better coverage because we're suddenly in a much better conference.  We crushed Florida State last night.  You crushed Tulsa.

When we crushed Tulsa, we got weak coverage.

If you somehow win the realignment lottery and join the SEC, if you crush Louisiana State, you'd have better coverage than us.

Gotta agree with this.

TBH, this Florida State team is so bad, Tulsa might beat them.

But Florida State is clearly a nationally recognized brand.  When we curbstomped Arkansas a few years ago, we got a ton of media attention even though that Arkansas team was terrible.

As much as it sucks. This is the reality. P4s get a ton of coverage from media. Pretty much 98% of Game Day. There are even some lower P4s that don't get coverage. Just the way it is. Money drives everything.

That's bc in 5 years there won't be a G5.  The conferences and their media partners know this already.
