Texas State Gets MWC Offer

If I'm Texas St., I don't know that it's worth it. It's not the same MWC, and while some of the brands might be better than in the SBC, not by much. They'll be on more of an island than they are now, travel more, and would be joining a less stable situation. If it's the PAC12, I saw yes. MWC? Not so much.

Especially from the mountain West, I don't want to hear any of the schools complaining about revenue if they're taking schools way outside of their footprint. Gets a little bit old seeing the non-power schools try to spread their conferences across the country and then talk about cost. I will at least give the Memphis AD credit for mentioning the fact that he also had to consider the Olympic sports.

It's funny how climate change is of no concern, when it comes to far flung  college sports conferences. Y'day and Friday......these were conference football games: Stanford at Clemson; Washington at Rutgers.

UTEP could be next if they get TSU. The Sun Belt buyout may not be that much but CUSA is probably more.

"Texas State is in the Sun Belt, and the exit fee for a league change is expected to be $5 million."

"The Pac-12 reportedly offered only $2.5M to help Memphis -- and other AAC schools -- pay conference exit fees."

AAC exit fees based on Smu were estimated at $20M+ each.

.................................................

CONFERENCE FRIENDZONE: In Portland, Bill Oram wrote the Pac-12 has been “blown to pieces” as the league’s second wave of additions has only successfully yielded Utah State. Tulane and Memphis and South Florida stayed put in the AAC along with UNLV “said no, reconsidered, then said no again.” Oram noted now, the Pac-12 is a seven-team conference “without an obvious solution” to get to the minimum eight members to be recognized by the NCAA. Oram: “One has to wonder if the first schools to take the plunge, like Boise State and San Diego State, are experiencing any buyers’ remorse” (Portland OREGONIAN, 9/26).

EVERYBODY IS LURKING: CBSSPORTS.com’s David Cobb reported the Mountain West Conference “appears to be turning its sights to MAC programs Toledo and Northern Illinois” as the conference seeks to fill out its ranks amid a chaotic week of conference realignment. MWC officials have contacted the MAC to let the conference know of its interests in adding the two school as “football-only members.” Texas State has also emerged as a potential target to expansion in all sports (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/26). In Fort Worth, Lawrence Dow reported Texas State and UTEP would “consider moves” from the Sun Belt and Conference USA to join the Pac-12. Texas State has had conversations with the MWC, AAC and Pac-12 about joining and "has had talks to remain" in the Sun Belt (FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/26).

I really don't see Toledo and NIU leaving the MAC....for a bunch of games in the Mountain and Pacific and Hawaii time zones.

But......they might be tired of Tuesday-Wednesday night football games every November.
