I applaud their commitment to the MWC, but again, where will their future revenue come from.  The MWC was raped of their best teams by 2PAC creating the PAC8.  They have nobody else to offer and will be stuck at eight if the remaining MWC teams sign this new GOR deal.  The MWC is hedging that they can attract some folks from the east, but who?  Tulane, Memphis, etc. are not moving out there and are waiting bigger offers that may never come.  From my outside view, and without thoroughly researching all of the realignment talk, gives me severe tired head, it looks like the MWC and 2PAC are stuck unless they start offering Sun Belt and MAC schools.  They are throwing around money they really don't have.

Just reported that the AFA has re committed to the MWC and received a $10 million signing bonus. UNLV, Nevado Reno, SJSU.and USU have also been offered sighing bonuses and have until 6:00 pm today central time to commit to the MWC or offer is off the table.

The MWC has been playing this game for a long time. Remember, the WAC was making a move to poach the best of the MWC and instead WAS poached and collapsed. The MWC was created by a core group that wanted to stay together and hated the idea of far-flung conference opponents that hurt their gate and alumni donations. The MWC understands how to head off threats to kill it!

What I remember is that the WAC expanded into a 16 team conference and about 24 years ago 5 of their school presidents met at the Denver airport and decided to form another conference. They convinced 3 more schools to join them and the MWC was born. The WAC never recovered and eventually bit the dust .

Here's an article on how the WAC tried to steal teams from the MWC with the at least knowledge of ESPN and how it failed. Not only did it fail, it killed the WAC. The MWC can play hardball when they have too! https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/8/29/21404261/byu-football-byu-independence-the-project-byu-mountain-west-conference-karl-benson/
