Guy is a Memphis sports journo.

I think Memphis really wants to be in the B12.  If they see a stint in the PAC-12 as a pathway to that goal, then they will bolt.  Unfortunately for Memphis, the PAC-12 also wants stability so is probably looking for some sort of binding agreement or GoR that will lock Memphis in for longer than they want and may cause them to miss the B12 opportunity if it comes in the future.  It's clear Memphis wants nothing to do with the current composition of the AAC.  It's a classic bird in the hand vs. two in the bush for Memphis.  It will be interesting to see what they do.

There are no promises that Memphis has a safe landing spot in the Big 12.  It is possible if the ACC raids the Big 12 in 2029 as expected but playing the "what if" game when you have a firm offer in hand is extremely dangerous.

Take the move up now or someone else will.

Good lord, is NutsaCk about to officially pass us by?

It's beginning to feel that way.

The thought of UTSA passing us by to the PAC and making double the TV revenue dollars than us makes me sick. Not to mention the recruiting advantage UTSA would have moving forward.

Then watching Air Force join the AAC as full-share member while we chill here making half-share. 🤮

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the Rocky Mountains.   AAC schools are mostly in large metro cities.  Pullman, Corvallis, Ft. Collins, Boise, and Fresno are not easy places to travel to.  Large charter jets for football will be limited in getting into small airports.  For smaller olympic sport teams, there is limited to no scheduled service to some of these destinations.   They would have to make several connections or go to a large city airport and bus a distance.

And don't forget the talking points of those who oppose any thoughts of NT joining a western based conference.

So which bird is in the hand and which birds are in the bush? Are the hand and bush interchangeable?

I assume Sammy the Owl, Rowdy the Roadrunner, and Scrappy are the birds you are referring to.

Are you factoring in the Falcons as one of the birds?

5 years is nothing to wait for the opportunity to join the Big 12 which Memphis fits brilliantly. Heck we plan for Olympics and World Cups for 10 years planning for a desired conference move for 5 years is minimal.

🤨

Other than leading the band (symbolism isn’t lost on me), has anyone heard what the vision is for UNT from our new president?  What are his near and long terms goals?  Where does he see UNT in 5 to 10 years?  What are we doing to improve four-year graduation rates?  What are we doing about acceptance rates?  Do we have ambitions of AAU status?

The new AAC Commish is going around visiting with all the league school’s individually.  Not a sign of anything, just a cheerleading session for the conference admins. Rah!

Exactly.
