I don’t think this as important as it was a few years ago.  If the guy can coach, the players will come.

Agree

It's all about the Benjamins now

And easy with those comparisons.  Kiffin was fired from the Raiders and had several college stops before FAU.   Coker was out of the game for a number of years before starting up UTSA.  Deion was a publicity hire that just happened to have worked out.

Just stop it with the facts and stuff.

After doing a little research, it is my opinion that Benedetto needs to get the job.

The dude runs a 4-2-5, and this season his defense has not given up more than 28 points in any game. That includes NIU's 16-14 win over Notre Dame, and NIU's 24-17 loss to NC State. Benedetto's defense is only giving up an average of 284.4 yard per game and 18.5 points.

for comparison, if UNT's defense didn't allow more than 28 points in any game this season, the Mean Green would be 7-3 right now. And that's with Morris' questionable discissions like passing up points, onside kicks after the first drive of the game, and not having a jumbo package in goal line situations.

I would be good with that.  His current reported salary is around $135,000 so money wouldn't be an issue.

We need to find the Patrick Cobbs of DC's.  How impressive is a coach who is down to his third or fourth string RB and coaches/develops him to get 192 yards against UTSA.,,,,,with a bum shoulder.

I want coaches that understand UNT and want to be here.  Not recommending for the DC position, but people like Chris Hurd (special teams at Illinois) and Marcus Trice (DB's/Defensive recruiting coordinator at SFA) need to be here.

It never has been. The vast majority of coaches here going back several staffs have had ties and it has never gotten us players outside of our normal level. Posters here put way too much emphasis on this.

I want them excited to be here, too.  A guy with a few skins on the wall…a guy that can push back on EM’s desire to always go for it on 4th down….or to encourage to take the 3 points.

I think a stronger DC immediately makes our defense and our offense better.

Think we hire a firm to conduct the search?

Hope not.  They tend to be a waste of money.  If they do go that route, I hope they pick UNTLifer LLC.

Totally agree. I remember when it was announced that Corkey Nelson was hired. Since he had previously been the DL coach under Rod Rust my first response was "well at least he knows what he's getting himself into".

My criteria for DC.

1. Runs a 4 man front

2. Has been a success DC at the FBS or FCS Level

3. Texas Ties (coached in state at some point)

4. Recruits transfer portal and JUCOs

There is a certain coach in the Piney Woods that fits that criteria and has wanted to be at UNT for years.

The funny thing with that is, after we fired the DC from Southlake and brought in an experienced college DC . . . our defense actually got worse.

Yep, with a guy who, by previous tenure in Denton, is a legend.

Sometimes bad coaches succeed, and a good one fails.  College football is weird.
