Then why not stay put?

Because from top to bottom the Pac 12 offers opponents of interest. Kick out weaklings Rice and Tulsa, and then your interdivision opponents like SDSU, Boise, Gonzaga, Fresno, Wazzou, OSU all garner more attention than UAB, FAU, Charlotte...

I can't find this actual tweet.  Great screen grab to capture it, but if McMurphy deleted it then I think he is reading the room and holding off until he sees more substance.

Why would Cal and Stanford take something like an 80% revenue cut to go to a non-P4 league. That's bananas.

Why would SMU give up nine years of tv revenue to get into a conference that is barely P5 and has the two most noteworthy members ( Clemson & FSU) trying to leave? They have sure not upgraded their ooc schedule by playing Houston Christian and East Texas A& M

Sorry, I'll have to respond in detail in a few weeks. I'm a little busy counting our ancillary non-tier I media revenue that still far exceeds our total AAC revenue, and planning where to park for our multiple sellouts, and best fent-free nose candy source for our likely homecoming game vs Miami.

Think Brett deleted this when realized the tweet was aggregated from a small podcast that was giving their "projection" based on rumors.

With the ACC news this week, looks like the American is safe for now. The PAC-12 is not getting a media deal any better than the American, and apparently multiple networks have already passed on the Pac.

Knowing this now, this my current preferred path for the AAC:

  • Add Texas State and James Madison as all-sport members. This gets your football league to 16 members. Separate into divisions. There's an easy path to stay at eight conference games or go to nine.
  • Add VCU and Dayton as non-football members. This gets your basketball league to 18 members. You can play one rival twice, and everyone else once.
  • Give programs 10-15 year deadlines to upgrade/build new facilities that are lacking - looking at UTSA, Rice, and FAU's high school gyms.
