This season looks like it will be the exact same as last year. Great offense terrible defense.

we gave up 582 yds of offense against a mediocre S. Alabama team.

Guys, on the brightside, Texas Tech's defense may be worst. ACU just got a 71 yard TD pass. Tech up 32-21 in the first half. Tech did score on a 4th and 13 (don't believe it was a good catch but oh well).

I truly admire your optimism to find a bright side that their defense might suck more than we do

I mean, ACU put up 17 first half points on us last year and we saw how bad that defense was. They have 265 yards and 21 points in 1 half against Tech. We'll see how the second half goes but that's not a good first half against an average FCS school.

On another note, I think Wren Baker is looking for another job. At least, if history is any indicator he is. WVU had their season opener at home vs a very well known brand, Penn State, and the stadium was half empty. Wonder who's skirt he's looking up nowadays.

Not sure how the other games are going today but right now it looks like at least by the defensive measure of yards given up we will be the lowest ranked FBS school once again

Morris had 9 incompletions to Lopez's 23 and ran for 2 TDs to Lopez's 1. I'd give our guy the edge on numbers overall.

We so often forget the rushing as part of the Qb efforts.

Looks like he needs to blame the fans

It was a sellout.  Yes, by the time it was a blowout fans started heading for the doors.  But WVU is not on the same level as PSU.

Not to mention they had something like an hour and a half weather delay in the second half after the game was pretty well decided.

Nothing to bitch about, but the defense is still worrisome.

Great point you can be happy that we won but realistic enough to understand that this defense is very bad

I started watching at the start of the 2nd half and it was 20-6 and the place was a ghost town.

For me one of the things on offense that I was happy to see was the fact we weren't rushing to get plays off. I believe the time of possession was probably close to 50/50 and that will help make a difference.

I don’t disagree, but I don’t care if we give up 38 points a game as long we score 39.  The reality is that with our fast paced offense, the opposing team will have the ball a lot.  Plus, as mentioned, USA got quite a few yards when we were up and trying to keep the ball in front of us.

That Texas Tech game might have 120 points.

Beat SFA.

It's not good to ignore the 582 yards allowed but a good chunk of that came late when the score / deficit didn't change. The 150 yards rushing allowed is the most important stat to me. They are a good rushing team, and regularly put up 200+ yard games. Last year's USA would have run for 400+ against NT.

The squad was down a couple of big contributors, came out and got some huge stops in the second half that helped set up the punt block, and the NT scores. That's what we asked for. We don't expect top-10 defense. We just want mid-table American defense and I think this squad can compete for a league title.

Defense was SOLID? You have to be shitting me. Terrible missed field goal ? Anything over 40 yards is not automatic.

I’m not a Caponi apologist, BUT maybe we should see how this defense looks with the three guys who were out. Two transfers from UT would look nice on this secondary. However, the confidence level for our DC is definitely at critical levels. Still hate to see missed tackles leading to big gainers and busted coverages. Only thing keeping the $hit from hitting the fan is we won
