North Texas came tantalizingly close to becoming bowl eligible in its first season under coach Eric Morris last fall.

The Mean Green played in eight one-possession games and won three of them.

UNT needed to win one more to qualify for a bowl game and was left to wonder what might have been after finishing 5-7.

“To go through a season with eight one-score games still haunts me,” Morris said this fall. “I think about the scenarios and situations that could have changed the course of those games to where we won seven or eight. We weren’t tough enough to pull those games out.”
