Speculation from Big 12 pundits:

Louisville, NC State, and Miami seem like low-hanging fruit if that is who the Big12 is targeting out of the entire ACC (less FSU and Clemson).

Not really. Notre Dame, Stanford, Virginia, and North Carolina all fit the Big 10 profile and would add valuable markets and national followings.

Pitt and Va Tech will probably be joining the Big12 bound teams.

And, once all threats of lawsuits are gone, Clemson and Florida St will almost certainly join the SEC.

Once Florida St. and Clemson break out of ACC jail then the real fun begins.  I just can't see the Big12 getting up to 21-24 schools.  That's un-manageable as a single Conference, but a lot of Brands will be homeless and will be calling them for an invite.

Strength (or maybe safety) in numbers?  I think once you get beyond a certain number you'd probably operate as two (or more) "conferences" within a larger virtual conference umbrella.
