This is the you we should have gone after-

Kevin Barbay

His offense was terrible at Mississippi State last year. He took over an Air Raid offense and did a poor job. Mississippi State was ranked 101 in team offense last year.

He did fine at App State, but I just remembered how bad Miss State was last year lol.

I'd never down vote you for having an opinion. And he seems okay to me, but Morris is our guy and we can't give up on him after one substandard season. I like Morris and do hope he can bring his defensive standard up to his offensive standard.

Besides Barbay is also an air-raid guy, the offense probably wouldn't be that different, Again, the defense is our problem.

You wanted us to hire a guy whose highest level of experience was 1 year as App State’s OC? Yikes.

Yet, the Defensive Coordinator from last year remains the DC this year.  That is on the HC.

2005–2006 Baylor (GA)
2007–2008 Texas A&M–Commerce (QB/WR)
2009 North Texas (GA)
2010–2011 Warren HS (TX)
2012–2013 Lamar (WR/ST)
2014 Colorado State (DPP)
2015–2017 Florida (DPD)
2018 Stephen F. Austin (OC/QB)
2019–2020 Central Michigan (AHC/WR)
2021 Central Michigan (OC/QB)
2022 Appalachian State (OC/QB)
2023 Mississippi State (OC/QB)
2024–present Houston (OC/TE)

I'll say this, he doesn't stay at one place very long.  Maybe he just wanted to get back to his home State of Texas all those years.  It will be interesting to see how he does at Houston.

I think previous HC experience and being in the Leach tree were priorities going into our hire.

I am curious what inspired this thread.  Maybe you see something special.

Here's hoping that, at the end of the year, that looks like a genius decision.

I just want to be clear that I didn’t downvote you for the post. I downvoted you for the title of the post and it felt good, so thank you for that.

Most assistant coaches resumes look like they are running from the law.

If the DC salary is such we couldn’t afford to fire him (if Morris wanted him gone, doubt it) then that is on whoever negotiated it as a 2-year deal to begin with.

It’s also on fans and the AD for not giving/getting enough funds to make needed adjustments.   A$M gave Jimbo $80 mil to be gone.  That’s crazy, but that’s how crazy their donors and supporters are.

Good point.  Look, I can make this thread go away for good, and only post once a week on GMG..........for $1.5 million.  Deal?

What I do like is that Morris is doing this his way on his terms. He will own our success or failure.

Yesterday he mentioned that at WSU they really got clicking in year 3. Year 2 was an improvement and year three they were competing for the Pac 12 title.

I’m hopeful and glad he is making himself accountable.

Do you mean Incarnate Word? Because he wasn’t at WSU for 3 consecutive seasons.

He must have been referring to WSU 2014-2016 seasons, but he wasn’t there then.  He was receivers coach there in 2012 and OC in 2022.  Neither were great conference years.

So he was trying to take credit for the Harrell/Filani years.

I didn't hear the context of his statement;  only what was posted by NM Green.  He simply could have been trying to state that a sequence of improvement normally happens?

NM Green stated "he mentioned that at WSU they really got clicking in year 3. Year 2 was an improvement and year three they were competing for the Pac 12 title."

Here is WSU's season and conference records...
