No doubt he (Kinne) is burning it up, but it's not like everyone thought at the time he was hired; he was a sure thing to do what he's done. Again, taking nothing away from his accomplishment, but people acting like they knew he was going to do this is very disingenuous.
Do you, or anybody else throwing around numbers of $6 million, realize the PAC2 has a media deal with CW for this season with an estimated value of $5-$9 million for each? Just two schools getting what you and others seem to think the PAC would get as a whole conference. It's not crazy to think the new PAC would get upwards of $10-$15 million per. Also, as it's been mentioned USF, Memphis, and Tulane are not in the same boat as us. They're favorites to join the ACC. They're also much further east than we are. The logistics are nowhere near the same and, as it's been said, they're getting full AAC shares. We are not.
In order for the AAC to offer more in distribution than the $5-6 million the Mountain West currently pays Air Force, Pernetti will have to give AF full-share distribution starting day one and cover their $17M MWC exit fee.
I wonder how Army would feel about both Navy and Air Force receiving full-share distribution while they are on half-share/ramp up distribution like us.
I can also see full-share teams like USF and Tulane and other half-share teams voicing their displeasure with AF jumping the line and receiving full-share on day one.
Seems to me that Pernetti will have his hands full working out the fine details to keep all conference members happy.
• If UNLV and Air Force don’t land in the Pac-12, I’ll bet the American Athletic Conference would take them both. I’m told there has already been contact between those sides.
