Basketball Programs To Host Nightmare On Elm Street Basketball Tip-Off

Recommended Posts

DENTON – The UNT men and women’s basketball teams are hosting the inaugural Nightmare on Elm Street Basketball Tip-off on Oct. 16 at the Denton Square.

The season tip-off showcase will be part of the city of Denton’s increased Halloween initiative. The event, which will feature a basketball court setup on Elm Street between Hickory and Oak Street in the Denton Square, will give Mean Green fans the opportunity to meet this year’s teams and get a preview of what will be an exciting 2024-25 season of UNT basketball.

“One of our highest priorities is always going to be engaging with the Denton community and continuing to grow relationships here in our backyard,” UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley said. “We are excited to be able to bring both of our basketball programs to the square in downtown Denton and partner with the city for this truly unique event this fall that we believe will bring UNT basketball to even more potential fans.”

The event is free and open to the public. More information including start time is still to come. TWU’s NCAA Division II national runner-up basketball team as well as Denton ISD will also participate in the event.

The Mean Green women’s basketball team is entering its second season under head coach Jason Burton. In its first season, UNT had its most successful season ever as they won a program record 23 games and a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season championship.

The UNT men’s basketball team is entering the second season under head coach Ross Hodge who last year led the Mean Green to a 19-win season, which included victories over LSU, Memphis and SMU. The Mean Green reached the second round of 2024 NIT and are only one of seven teams in the country who have won a NCAA national postseason tournament game in each of the last four years.

For more information on UNT men and women’s basketball tickets, contact the Mean Green Ticket Office at 940-565-2527 or at ticketoffice@unt.edu. Fans can visit the UNT Athletics Ticket Office located at Gate 2 of DATCU Stadium between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sounds like City of Denton politics to include TWU and Denton ISD.   We always have the TWU-anchor around us trying to get Denton to be a real college town and value our Athletics.

There could be up to 11 teams trying to get court time at that event...

"TWU’s NCAA Division II national runner-up basketball team as well as Denton ISD will also participate in the event."

It's a great idea....but with TWU and Denton ISD involved....it could be a conviluted mess.

If TWU is there, and Denton's four high schools have their boys and girls teams there...that'd be 9 other teams.  I would presume if they're involved....all those teams would be introduced too.

If it was just UNT....great idea. Now.....not so sure.
