Memphis is a small market and probation-central with their coaches/athletes.  Nobody invites a Thug-U intentionally...unless it's Florida State, lol.

If the Big 12 or ACC need a couple of replacements, who are the next schools up?

Both recently overloaded in expansion...just in case they lost some schools.  I think both can be happy with no replacements.  16 is too many in a conference in my opinion.  14 or 12 is better.

It's very conceivable that Memphis gets invited to the ACC once Florida State, Clemson, and co. bail.  But will it really be a power conference at that point?

Similar to the BIG 12 when they added Cincy,UCF,Houston and BYU after losing Texas and OU.

Memphis is a post-apocalyptic wasteland city.  No market at all.  They add nothing to a conference, unless you think that giant AI data center Elon is about to build will flip the whole city.

Invest in slums today.

And that's why they're rotting in the AAC with USF.

Not a power conference but it will still be, as many SMU fans have reminded us, better than The American.

Joining a power conference is about money, BIG money... The fact they they are only offering $250K as a bonus for getting into one shows that they are not ready.

The Memphis AD has a better chance of getting AD job in P4 than collecting that bonus.
