Then I feel like you can sort of get behind it. I am not saying that you have to like the system, but I think if we accept who we are and what we are it gets easier. At least for me.
Gone are the days where I thought we had a chance at moving into a P5 conference. I just don't see that happening now.
I do think we can still have some fun albeit playing in a lower level.
In high school, in my freshman year we had two football squads, the "A" team and the "B" team. I was on the B team but got to play the position I wanted and had more fun than I would have sitting the bench on the A team.
A new twist to a reverse merger is that the PAC 2 takes all the MWC teams and avoids any conference or individual school payouts. However they require all programs to increase their athletic budgets to a certain amount within in a defined timeline in order to remain a member. Both WSU and OSU athletic budgets are about $90 million while the closest MWC school is SDSU at about $60 million . The PAC 2 could require all incoming MWC teams to reach $60 million within 2 or 3 years or be dropped from the new PAC. This would probably eliminate the programs that they don't want such as Hawaii, Utah ST. , Nevada , New Mexico, SJSU, and Wyoming and give them an 8 school conference. It would also set the financial bar for any other programs that the new PAC might wish to include at a later date.
within 2 or 3 years or be dropped. This should eliminate Hawaii, Utah St.
Update... i had another dream about college football... in it i was really mad that USC had dropped to #13 in the country after one loss, while Texas was ranked #5 in the country after 2 losses...
Maybe i need to change my diet
Our lack of 2025 signees is by design for this exact reason. Why commit all your scholarships so quickly when you can wait and get more established transfers or see if any better HS recruits fall through the cracks because P5s went heavy in the portal.
