It would be nice to have a full schedule, but I guarantee no fanbase other than us even knows we haven't filled it out yet.

This shouldn't be an excuse or make it acceptable.

I'm just saying that I don't believe it's an embarrassment (if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, etc.), I'm not saying I like it.

This isn't about being embarrassed that our schedule isn't done, I don't know how that point came along, but it wasn't from me. It's about a poorly run part of the program, and it should not be acceptable for things to be run this way.

This label that they're doing a poor job simply comes from your expectation that you think it should line up with every one else.

I get it.  I agree this isn't a good look.  I just want to be clear that they aren't breaking any rules, or missing any deadlines.

Teams get done around the same time because schedules fill up and there aren't games left, you can't make more games once a team has all of their dates finalized. Your missing the part where we ask, what were we doing all of these months while everyone else was negotiating games with each other? Why are we left hat in hand asking Wayland Baptist to come play us? It's not about thinking we should be done because everyone else is done, but about why we haven't done a good job negotiating games over several months while everyone else has.

How do you not see this as an issue?

All reasonable points.  I wouldn't say it's an issue, I think of it more as a red flag pointing to bigger problems.

I don't know about you, but I'd say that's an issue.

The TBD game on the 21st is against Texas Wesleyan. Another NAIA team if I'm not mistaken. Take a look at this year's home schedule:

Evansville

Wayland Baptist

Texas Wesleyan

Oregon State

Mississippi Valley State

App State

Houston Baptist

We got lucky with App State, they had their game fall through due to hurricane damage and we were able to pick them up.

The only bright spot is we have 3/12 games already filled for next year if all the home-and-home agreements stay true, including a game in Denton vs. McNeese. Add at least two more games for an MTE. I don't know how urgent Ross is with the schedule, but hopefully he can start locking agreements down before the offseason.

The thing about scheduling these lower division schools is a similar thing that all P5s do, at least in football. They want their records to look good at the beginning of the year before beating up on each other later in the conference.

The difference is we don't have an elite basketball conference to boost rankings/net like those teams do. Outside of Memphis who else is really notable in our conference?

Wichita and Temple returning to their former glories would really help.

Don’t forget UAB.

Definitely. We need a strong top of the conference to keep showcasing the AAC nationally.

Our league has a bunch of underrated baksetball teams but suffers from a lack of history, regional rivalries, and conference pride in my opinion. We could and should field as many teams in the NCAA Tournament as the MWC does. A perfect scenario and modest goal within the next 5 years, IMHO, would be maintaining the conference with all of its current members, and getting to the point where we are:

  • Sending 2/3 of us, Memphis, UAB to the tournament every year
  • Sending 1/2 of other storied programs Wichita/Temple to the tournament every year
  • Sending 1/3 of FAU, USF, and Charlotte to the tournament every year
