Ah I gotcha. Agreed.

At the end of the day, gotta have willing parties. Balancing act with scheduling home and homes vs buy games I’m sure.  Feels like we’re trying to level up our opponent quality and some of them just have no interest in coming to Denton.

There are 350 teams in Div. 1, we can't be so undesirable that we can't get any of them to play us. Like I posted above to Matt, there should be plenty of good to decent opponents from many conferences that should be viable opponents. 349 other teams get their schedules filled and put out, there is no excuse constantly being the last team to finish.

Sure but you don't want to fill your OOC schedule with a handful of teams in the 200-300 level. You're right that there is no excuse for being this close to the start without a schedule ready though. But if it takes up the last second to get App State in Denton rather than Alcorn State, I'm okay with that.

Agree, that's why I was saying there are plenty of good to decent opponents to pick from. Give me Duquesne, George Mason, WKU, Central Mich., Belmont, UNLV, Grand Canyon, etc. Solid mid to upper level teams from mid-major conferences. Just taking a guess, but those teams seem like a solid home and home that should be possible to make.

A week away now, how is this acceptable?

I hope the sales and marketing team has been working hard behind the scenes for when the games are announced... Everything so far is building towards a drop from our historic attendance numbers last year.

I don't see how last minute deals can bring in anyone of note. App seemed to fall in our lap due to them having to cancel a game. We are missing what, 4 games?

Only 2 at this point. We have 28 total. Another fellow season ticket holder who somehow already has their tickets says the missing games are on 11/11 and 12/11 against opponents TBD. Technically UNC Asheville could work on both of those dates, the opponent who App State lost their game with.

12/11 doesn't make sense, isn't that during finals? 11/11 seems odd too, 2 days before traveling to Minnesota? If that turns out to be true there will be nearly week games in all but 1 week of the 1st three weeks.

Tue. Nov 5th

Mon. Nov 11th (assuming that's scheduled), Wed. Nov. 13th

Mon. Nov.18th

Mon. Nov.25th.

Not a single home weekend game in November?

Yeah if we were able to land UNC Asheville I thought that might be a road game scheduled for something like 12/9, right after our game at High Point in the first game of a home-and-home.

If 12/11 is correct I'd imagine that might be a local NAIA/D2 team. UNT Dallas maybe?

Playing UNT Dallas would be so weird. I'm wondering what the chances are that this is it and we are going to be a few games short of a full schedule?

So the AD sent out tickets with dates on them, but no opponent listed?

I, too, have feared that we might be the embarrasing anamoly of the NCAA and play only 28, despite all the tweets this offseason about the mid majors having troubles filling their schedule. However, I have logged into my ticket account to try to verify my friend's claim and it is true. I don't have access to the tickets yet but within my order it has 16 home games with November 11 and December 11 listed against undetermined opponents and App State is already included.

Will we know those opponents in less than eight days? At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is no.

Although with Covid not a factor anymore, I don't know the exact date a schedule is locked up for modifications.

I'm sorry but this is fire-able to whomever is responsible. What kind of department do you run if you can't manage game scheduling to at least an acceptable time frame, let alone competitive level?

You'd think there would have been some embarassment after being the last Div. I school to finish their schedule last year. Now.....to do it two years in a row is pathetic.

This just showed up. Still have a TBD game on Nov 21

The ladies moved their game up that day 30 minutes so we'll have a doubleheader at the Pit on 11/7. Women at 5:30 pm vs. Texas Southern and men at 7:30 against Wayland Baptist.

Why do they do the ......2 hours between game starts? Have you ever known a game to be over in 1.5 hours? So the men's game will essentially start at 8. No way does it tip at 7:30. Hard pass.

Yeah 7:30 is unrealistic. But assuming the TSU game isn't a close one, it should go by pretty fast. I'm a fan of the four 10-minute quarters in the women's game.

Agree, and for it to happen again this year means it's not an anomaly. There are 350 teams in Div.1, and 349 are better at getting their schedules set. How can we be a serious athletic department when this kind of mismanagement is allowed to continue? If this is our approach can you imagine what kind of other things are allowed to slide?

It is what it is.  I wanted to buy season tickets this year, but very few of the home games lend themselves to driving 5 hours each way, so I will attend when I can and watch from afar.  I would be pissed if I was a season ticket holder.

Interesting story about Wayland Baptist.  Their women's team won 131 straight games back in the day and were known as the Flying Queens.

This is all frustrating and all, but I don't think there is any NCAA deadline that they have failed to meet.  Not sure what you mean by "competitive" level, other than comparing this to the time table that our peers met.

Are y'all making a mountain out of a molehill?

Perspective: I have not once, ever as a MBB fan, frowned on the team that was last to put their schedule together.  @CMJ has never in the history of GMG.com posted any content to the like of, "Damn! That program needs to get their heads out of the sand and finish their schedule!"

Is all this hoopla come from shame (comparing to others, because you think others care?) , or just a matter of inconvenience (which, makes sense.  Y'all want to plan trips)

This isn't about missing any deadline, this is about underlying issues in the staff and/or the department. We are 5 days out from the season starting and are still missing 2 games from the schedule, 349 other teams have managed to complete their schedules while we still have not. How is that acceptable? Well run programs do not have this happen.

By competitive I mean good solid programs, I've already named the types of programs we should be bringing in on the 3rd post of this page. Not only are we not bringing those programs in, we are waiting to the last days to bring in teams like Wayland Baptist. Something is not as it should be here, and whatever it is needs to be addressed.
