I trust Akers

"The stars certainly aligned for us to have Malisone join our program for a year," Akers said. "She graduated a year early with an incredible GPA of 3.9 and was going to start her pro career but after some conversation and thought it seemed like a year at UNT was a win-win for all involved. Mali has shown the ability to go low by shooting numerous rounds In the 60s and even as low as 64. Mali's swing coach is in Argyle, so she can easily continue to see him. She should be a starter for us and will help fill the loss of Emilie and Ellie. Her personality is exactly what I like. She is cool and calm and has great body language on the course. Mali also has the work ethic that our players are known for."

Chanthapanya, who originally hails from Fort Worth and attended Saginaw High School, was a second-team All-American in 2021-22 and earned first-team WGCA All-American honors the past two seasons. She holds several school records, including a low round of 64 - one shot better than the UNT program record for low round.
