If it's used for schedule balancing then someone messed up the schedule years earlier. As a regular season home game it diminishes the value of a season ticket. It artificially inflates the win column to try and achieve Lame-Bowl eligibility.

Except that early in the season, you can play younger players in a game that you should be able to win anyway. Also, it is a chance to get game time for players that did not go through Spring. It is also a home game, and after MANY years of only 4 home games, I'll take the FCS opponent and a win.

There are reasons for us to do it just like there are reasons for Alabama to play someone like us.

Well,I don't see any on the field performance against Bama between the Green Apple or Plum. Both are basically Rotten Apples but I get your point, Now Portland State, that's a different kind of fruit.

For our situation, they are just not helpful to grow your fanbase. Obviously, there are exceptions, as SFA is a decent OOC game because they bring people and UNT fans know SFA friends. But playing Nicholls State, Portland State, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling, Texas Southern, Prairie View, incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, or Tarleton State just don't bring enough eyeballs to the stadium. And while everyone wishes that people would come to games to watch us play as the only reason, the reality is that Denton doesn't work like that. They show up for games we play teams that they have heard of or care about. Otherwise, they don't care.
