Eric Morris: North Texas closed with wins over Tulsa and UAB to generate some momentum during a 5-7 debut campaign for Morris. The Mike Leach disciple is trying to replicate the success he enjoyed while leading Incarnate Word to FCS playoff appearances in 2018 and 2021

This is just another attempt to segregate out G5 programs away from FBS and P4's.  Same as before the Division l split into 1-A and 1-AA.    Give them their own rankings and they will be fine....

It's their media. Just like it's their politicians and legislatures. You can't do anything about it. They have the fans, the eyeballs, the power, and the money. If they're squeezing out the Texas Tech's and Oklahoma State's of the CFB world, there are a lot of folks who never had a chance to survive. It is what it is.

It’s true.  They wield all the power.

We've been playing football longer than Texas Tech, and we are historically larger.  It is sad that they are seen as impossibly superior to us.

It's because they are. Deal with it.

Wtf... lol.

No, they are not. They have a geographic upper hand on us. They claim large swaths and the people in them as their own. It's worked for them, and good for them. But they are by no means superior to us. Historically, they are bad to extremely mediocre in just about everything they do. Yeah, Yeah - touche, we are, too. I would call us 2 peas in a pod well before I called them superior. However, UNT at least has SOME history.

So does Tech. lol. Their basketball team just won a national title, their football team was ranked consistently in the top 10/25 under Leach which is, at least, in the current students lifetime, plus, they just poached our basketball coach from us.

While we might even be a better academic school/ larger than they are, their affiliation with the better conferences over the years makes them athletically superior to us.  Just is what it is.

At least they can kinda understand our pain because they have the younger sibling complex with ut and A&M pretty bad.

Man... no.

You're on here as a UNT alum typing lies to defend a university that isn't yours. And we wonder why we don't have supportive alum. This is exhibit A.

I’ve never seen us ranked in football, much less ranked 2nd like Tech did. I’ve never seen us advance beyond the 2nd round of the ncaa tournament, much less lose a title in overtime like Tech did.

They are FAR better than we could’ve ever dreamed of since we gave up in 1982.

It's all relative in terms of who we are and what they are. Put a sunbelt/cusa/MVC patch on their jerseys for their premiere years and see where they are. If you think they're a lightly supported program now (vs their "peers"), imagine doing that to them out there in Lubbock. Then, put a big12/SWC patch on our jerseys since the 60s.

See what I'm saying? Their little success is created by their opportunities.

This^  It's all about the patch.

$mut used to have a SWC patch before they got kicked out of the group.

They saw another chance to "buy-a-patch" with the ACC, so they will spend $40 million for it.  To them the value of the patch is what it is all about....image, and nothing else.   $40 million won't make them P5-quality, even if the patch says they are.

P5 quality is very subjective. Is Boston College p5 quality? Is Rutgers? Etc. Etc. Well, according to their conference commissioners... they are. Smu is no less than those middling/cellar p5 programs. Many of g5 programs could surpass those type programs with the proper patch/tv revenue.
