NCAA will no longer include the Pac-12-10=2 as an autonomy conference. If the league survives they'll have same voting power as the G5 leagues. They won't be on the Board of Directors, but will stay part of the Division I Council like the G5 which beats being FCS and non-football who have less representation. The autonomous group have a limited ability to make optional rules (such as full cost of attendance) that the non autonomy can choose to follow but they get no say in those rules.

Losing that status and with it the better than G5 independent but not as good as P4 payout from CFP is another blow to Pac-2 having big carrots to offer schools that might make them willing to pay exit fees to join.

Supposedly Pac-2 wants Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, UNLV, SDSU and some mix of Memphis, UNT, UTSA, Rice, Tulane.

With those advantages eroded, they are going to have to show an impressive media rights deal to successfully raid.

Interesting.   So, are there any P5 benefits left for the PAC-2 to dangle?

And how does the PAC-2 request media rights bid proposals for an unconfirmed conference membership?

Schools #1-10 = x value, schools 1-6, 8-10, + 12 = y value, and so on?

As long as we can get a media rights deal that is not streaming-only, this is what I'd like. The American has got some work to do to not be in the same situation that Pac is in in a few years when its media deal is up and this time is negotiating without Houston, UCF, and Cincy.

While some fans may not like it, we also need to continue building our rivalry with UTSA. They have the stronger FB program right now so we need to make our two schools a package deal for any conference that pursues us if the American implodes.

Some Memphis folks think the Tigers would pass on Pac-2 offer. Seems pretty clear Florida State and Clemson are going to leave with just the exit date and cost to be worked out. If they leave seems likely UNC and UVA would leave too.
Memphis would be the best candidate to pull up that doesn’t have baggage of an in-state school whining about not elevating them.

Well they aren't going Big XII unless it's a backfill. They will probably be sour about the league losing its big money producers and align with Stanford and Cal trying to block any expansion candidate while holding out for a raid of Big Ten, or SEC or Big 12.

An Auburn article speculates a depleted ACC would simply backfill.  But this is seriously a stupid alignment of coast to coast leftovers....

"There will be a big game of musical chairs played when the ACC crumbles, but unlike the Pac-12, there is a contingency plan to keep the ACC alive: Memphis, Tulane, Wazzu, Oregon State, UConn, and USF making the jump from the Group of Five ranks."

By the time the SEC, Big ten, and Big 12 pick the teams they want from the ACC the rest of these teams will be left like the pack and will not maintain a designation of a power conference

Memphis academics will keep them out of any realistic ACC expansion chances.  Also, UNC isn't going anywhere.  NC politics gives authority to the North Carolina board of governors who are currently enacting legislation that would essentially bar any institutions from leaving the ACC.  NC politics is truly one of a kind.  ACC is also based in Charlotte.  UVA might have some appeal to the Big 10 but they are also politically tied with VT (although to a lesser degree).

USF, SDSU, and Tulane are the only G5's that have a shot.

Why would Duke not be included in the Big Ten move should UNC and VA head that direction?

Just guessing they don't have enough quality football history or football brand to draw viewers and more media $?  Kinda like Northwestern and Vanderbilt, weak links.

I'm certainly glad your school whored itself out when no one wanted you in the first place. Just ask Fla. St. Smut was too good to be associated with us. How does feel that no one in the soon to be defunct aac wants you to come along. You'll soon be "begging for the scraps from Longshanks table" like you always have. No one wants smu. Accept it.

Remember how LA Tech gave the finger to UL-La and ULM.  Well, look at them now.  Bet they would trade places with UL-La in a heartbeat.

I see the same future for smuT.  Kharma's a bitch.
