Heard Shane Porter got reps at RB and ran pretty well. Scored a rushing TD and 1 catching TD.

He looked real good. With some RB's out he got a lot of reps. Very shifty and quick. Had a couple of big runs.

He's listed on the spring roster as a WR.

I also saw Jace Ruder on the roster. I thought he had moved on.

Defense was ok. Not great, but not bad. Showed flashes of stopping the run. Secondary was aggressive in the run game. D-Line and linebackers need to get more involved. More pass rush also. But didn't give up any big plays.

Offense 1st team looked good. Scored almost every possession. Running backs a little banged up so didn't see them all. Stone was with 1st team QB. ...

Yeah... this defense might end up being worse if Stone is leading our offense to countless touchdowns.

Pretty much the exact scenario happened last year.  Stone started the season, and underperformed.
The offense was somewhat-saved by one of the better QBs we've seen around here in a while not named Fine.  The defense was not saved... at all.

The defense was ranked 130 in total defense last year. We can all agree the secondary is moving in the right direction. However, the front 6 is worrisome.

We added a DE from Oregon, a LB from Iowa State, and a few HS prospects. Other than that, the front 6 looks the same as last year. We need to hope a few guys from the portal are added this spring. Otherwise we will be 5-7 or 6-6 this year.

I haven’t seen too many DL TP targets. Here’s one.

The same way Seth doubled and tripled down on high school recruiting, zigging when other FBS coaches were zagging, we have doubled and tripled down on our DC suddenly becoming competent and our front players making huge jumps in one off season. We were bottom ten in damn near every defensive metric related to the front last year and added a handful of players who in the best case scenario will somehow be players from day one at age of 18/19 and somehow not transfer at season end. We also lost a (undersized) DE who at least ranked highly in pass rush win rate, have no impact players who had their season cut short making a comeback, the roster construction and plan for defense just doesn’t make sense and we all can see it.

They didn’t even try, very few offers went out to portal DL/LB. 131 FBS schools will be scouring the portal for late entries on the DL, even the ones with depth. You cannot tell me their plan was to wait until after spring to shore up the front. This is Todd Dodge levels of arrogance thinking there will be improvement.

AND we pay our DC handsomely for these services😂

l’d like to say Morris is gambling big time on keeping a DC who’s defense ranked last in the FBS. But then I remind myself that this is North Texas and years of evidence prove there really aren’t any consequences for mediocrity or even failure.

The Defense cant be any worse than last year or can it be?

It'd be hard for the defense to get even worse, but significant injuries on the offensive side could make the season worse, 2-10 or 3-9 instead of 5-7.

Oh please. All were fired after 5 years or more. And we give massive contract extensions for a winning season because we think they are miracle workers. That’s how sad our program is.

5 years is the common length of a coaching contract.  We didn't (don't) have the $$ to fire early.  Wren even kept Benford for his 5th year after he ruined the basketball program.  Wren made another poor decision to extend Seth, that's all on him!

On him and then bolted. Amass mistakes and bolt, the typical athletic administrators gold plan. Yet, they keep getting rehired.

I'm trying to think--prior to Wren, who is the last person to go straight from the A.D. position at NT to another A.D. position at an FBS school?

I'd guess Steve Sloan....who left us for UCF (I think they were FBS at that time....not sure though).

I'm not referencing Baker here, though he does fit the gold plan mold. It's a country wide issue.

Can we take a freaking break from the ass-whipping that is "....would like a word with you" response?

It's not only overplayed, 99% of the time, it's hung on a thought that isn't well thought out and/or lazy.
