"unlocked doors after hours".

Maybe this should be addressed as a first line of defense.

Otherwise hire $20/ hour nightguards to patrol it.

What’s the origins of lock the gate?

Mike Canales per Footballscoop.com in 2010.

“Our motto is going to be that we are going to lock the gate and go to work. If it is at 2:40 or 2:50 or whatever time we are going to practice, that gate is going to be locked. There is a time to play and a time to work, and we are going to work. I am going to demand a lot and expect a lot.”

Thanks. I’d heard references on GMG.com, but never quite understood them. Was this to keep the media out or to keep the players in?

It was figurative.  The idea was that everyone was all in.

My recollection is he showed up to that PC wearing or carrying a length of chain with a lock attached.
