BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – A shorthanded UNT men’s basketball team lost 71-62 at UAB Sunday afternoon at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Mean Green (14-11, 7-6) were led in scoring by Jason Edwards who poured in a game-high 29 points. It’s his 10th 20-point game of the year. North Texas was still without starting guards Rubin Jones and CJ Noland to injury.

The Blazers (17-8, 9-3), who scored 26 of their 71 points at the free throw line, were led by newcomer Yaxel Lendeborg who scored a career-high 26 points.

“Their size and physicality is real,” said UNT head coach Ross Hodge. “They were able to get the ball close to the basket and when they did miss we weren’t able to grab enough boards. Got to give credit to them.”

North Texas has a much-needed six days off as they don’t play again until Saturday when they host UTSA at the Super Pit.
