Perhaps this comes as a surprise to you but coaches have been preparing for bowl games and recruiting for many years. Personally have no problem with the defensive staff at Sam Houston staying for the school's first bowl game even though many of them knew they were already coming here.
I know we ended up blowing that game against East Carolina when he took over the defense. However, they played really well that first half. The offense went cold that second half. We blew a 14 point lead which was disappointing, but the guys were making plays on defense. They had 2 sacks, 4 TFL, and an INT. The offense scored 7 points that second half.
The defense won us the game versus Temple. Brian Nelson caught that game sealing INT to clinch a bowl game. It was an ugly game, the offense once again struggled in the second half. They scored 0 Points against a bad Temple team. The defense on the other hand, gave up 0 points in the 2nd half.
Jaylen Smith, Chavez Brown, and Jordan Brown all played well these last 2 weeks. I imagine that is part of the reason why Morris wanted to keep him on staff.
How about Tennessee? Did they deserve to be in, because they got spanked worse than either SMU, Indiana, or Clemson…by a lower seeded team. We need the committee to take note of that also.
