Hate to see this.  Seems like he was good for the Athletic Department.

Yes, he was very good for Athletics.   Dr. Pohl and President "Jitter" Nolen were other school Presidents that were also very supportive and forward thinking as far as Athletics in the past 50 years.

It makes a BIG difference if the school Prez supports Athletics or not.  Let's hope the next President checks that box too!

I remember when he transferred from the UNLV side of the field to the UNT side of the field at halftime of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The UNLV fans chanted "Neal" and we responded "Smatresk" back and forth for about 10 minutes.

Maybe I'm imagining the chant, but it might have happened.

He gave off "cool grandpa energy" throughout his tenure at UNT and he'll definitely be missed. Wishing him the best!

I saw that he was going to take a teaching position at UNT in biology.  I kind of like that for him.

I had no idea he was even a biology professor until right now. Thank you.

Neal was a very good president. It’s hard to make everyone happy but he did a fine job with navigating a lot of issues. Talked to him once briefly during my time at UNT and he seemed like a genuinely nice person. Sucks to see him go, but 10 years as a school president probably drains the life out of someone. Farewell, Neal!
