DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team lost 82-79 in overtime to UAB Wednesday night at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (12-8, 5-3) led by as many as 17 late in the first half but were outscored by the Blazers (14-7, 6-2) 46-37 in the second half to send the game to the overtime period.

“Give credit to coach Kennedy and UAB,” said head coach Ross Hodge. “Ultimately our inability to get stops without fouling in the second half was the difference in this game.”

UAB attempted zero first half free throws but shot 24 free throws in the second half and overtime periods combined. The Mean Green shot 25 free throws for the game.

UNT was led by sophomore Jason Edwards who scored a game-high 31 points. It’s the second game this year he’s scored over 30 points. He’s the first Mean Green player since Roosevelt Smart in 2017-18 to have multiple 30-point games. Aaron Scott added 20 points and CJ Noland poured in 17 points. It’s the most points Scott and Noland have scored in a conference game this season.

Wednesday’s home loss ends a 17-game home winning streak by the Mean Green. They’ll look to start a new home winning streak on Saturday as they host South Florida at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfied.
