Congratulations to the team, students and administration for creating a major league crowd and outcome last night...it was thrilling for me, as I am a veteran of the old days at the old pit (men's gym) of the 60's.  You created just as much excitement and atmosphere as the old days...thanks.

Indeed. It was great to watch on TV. Place felt enthusiastic through the TV. 

Also, a shout out to our fans in attendance for having proper basketball IQ, understanding the flow of the game, and realizing when it's time to get involved as the home team fans. On the surface, it doesn't seem like a big deal. But I've seen other places on TV where the crowd could push the game out of reach and.... crickets.

might be the first SMU fan i have ever seen compliment us, the PIT and the atmosphere. said we are more hostile then memphis!

Our crowd has gotten much better at getting involved at the right times over the past several years. It’s why having the students in there en masse is so critical. The crowd cues off of their energy. They basically “give permission” to the older alumni fans to get pumped up and participate. Get the students fired up, and there’s a couple of super passionate pockets of alumni fans around the Pit (everyone knows where they are)  that will take the cue and get the rest of the folks around them riled up. 

Last nights “North Texas” chant was a perfect example of this organically happening. @SUMG & @FirefightnRick their crew fired up from the play on the floor and the students erupting started it at literally the perfect time. Our group on the other side of the Pit returned the chant, students picked up on that, jumped in and boom - best North Texas chant since the La Tech football game when we were undefeated a few years back. It was awesome. Those videos of it going around on social media show me we really can be a difference in the game as a fanbase.

Now the trick is getting that kind of crowd engagement game in and game out. I truly don’t get how our fans can go to games like last night, be palpably buzzing after, talking about how badass everything was be so dense as to not figure out we can do that at LITERALLY every home game if we want to.

Incredible crowd. There was a certain buzz and excitement in the Pit even before the game started. We give the administration grief (rightfully so, at times) but they deserve so much praise for the work that went into making last night a success. Great job all around.

I just read their fan board and they were full of praise for the game, our team, the super pit and our fans.  It was surprising to say the least. If we can get 2 K or more of our fans to go to the game at Moody we can show them how to neutralize a home court advantage!

Was at the game last night. Disappointing that there were not more Mustang fans. UNT's crowd and students really showed up. They had over 2,000 students at the game and they were loud and engaged all night. The Super Pit is a really nice arena, I was impressed and it got really loud when they were all cheering at once.

As far as the game goes, that was a classic battle, very fun to watch. UNT is a very good team. Without looking at the stats, the one thing that stood out to me is that we did not get as many steals as we normally do. We had some high quality traps but they mostly handled it well and got several easy baskets/wide open 3s by getting it to the open man out of the double team. It really came down to UNT shooting lights out from the 3 point line down the stretch and we could not quite overcome it. In spite of all of that, we had a wide open three at the buzzer to win, it just didn't fall.

SMU handled the high pressure atmosphere well. I was also at the Memphis game and this crowd was more hostile and more loud than Memphis, but the Ponies handled it well. Definitely the most hostile environment we have had all year.

Was a great game and Phelps was so great last night. I definitely think we will build off this and can hopefully go another run and put a bunch of Ws together.

In parting, I will say that the UNT fans were very pleasant. Despite being one of the few families there in full SMU gear, nobody was mean. A couple of frat boys did yell some insults at us in the parking lot after the game, but nothing over the line, and they were just having fun in victory.

Was a great experience and a great game to see in person, except for the outcome.

Take away that Williamson foul and we win the game. Their guy made 2 of 3 free throws. Where did that 3 point shooter come from late? Suddenly, he was draining threes. They play good defense as well. It was a great game to watch. Both of these teams will continue to be relevant in the AAC this season.

UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
