JMU is currently ranked in BOTH football and MBB polls.  Random thoughts

  • it's really, really hard to sustain success - especially in G5 FB.  How long can they do it?
  • Does this put a little smoke on the argument that you should focus ONLY on one sport? That you have to be a bball school OR a football school, and you cannot be both?
  • what is JMU's athletic budget/spending? How does that compare to us? To the rest of the Belt?
  • home run hires? lots of luck? Probably a bit of both

It's a volatile combination. Once ignited, it will burn intensely until doused with turkey piss by vt supporters in the state legislature. (The Virginia supporters will be unaware until MadDog gets ranked in fencing or badminton.)

James Madison doesn't blame UVA or Virginia Tech for their problems. Hell, they don't even blame Old Dominion or Liberty either.

Holding yourself accountable is step 1.

We are fully aware that 99% of our problems trace back to detrimental decisions made internally.  Apparently, you are not.

JMU has the most important thing it takes to run an athletic department. The right people/administration in the department. The success of both sports shows they are smart and informed decision makers, something we have been lacking in for decades. Outside of all of the sporting decisions the AD handles promotion, advertisement, fundraising, donations, logistics, community outreach, fan engagement, marketing, budgeting, etc. Without that strong foundation every coach will struggle to succeed here.
