Jimbo would get a statue at UNT if he had those records. However, A$M has much higher standards and rightfully so.

When you're a state flagship, draw 100k every game and play in the SEC, have dozens of 5 star recruits, there are ZERO excuses.

You have generational fans about to cancel season tickets. A change has to be made.

At the same time, it feels like that's been the story at A&M for the last 20-30 years. They are a perennial 8-5 team . You'd think those generational fans would have canceled their season tickets a long time ago.

Yes, the Aggies were stupid (again) to give him a guaranteed $95 mil 10-year contract in 2021.

Now they will pay him a record $76 mil to make him leave.

If that were true, Tony Levine and Major Applewhite would still be coaching here. Both were fired after 8-5 seasons.

UNT however, embraced and marketed going 6-6 as a goal under Dan McCarney

And how does a company that generates $213M/yr. (TAMU athletic revenue) pay out one person $76M and survive financially? Coaching salaries are completely out of control, and I suspect it isn't fair market pricing, but collusion within the NCAA that accounts for these outsized salaries. Hell, Mary Bara makes $29M/yr. but General Motors generates $156Billion (700 times more!) in revenue. And she is overpaid!

A lot of that money comes from their endowment the state gave them 75 years ago.  Both A&M and UT are State Flagship schools and get an endowment from the state worth I believe close to a Billion each.

Okay. Fair enough. So, GM only generates 150 times more revenue than TAMU yet pays their CEO only $29million/yr. And she has a hell of lot more to manage than the HC at TAMU. All the more reason to investigate these outsized coaching salaries. It will ruin college football if it hasn't already. Plenty of coaches sitting at home drawing huge severances too.

There will only be about 6 or 7 schools that will win the national title every year from here on. TAMU & UT won't be one of those 6 or 7 schools anyway.

And when you’re guaranteed that kind of money win or lose there can be little motivation.

We are one lost society.

But what else is there to do in Bryan/College Station?

A&M will just pass the hat among their alumni . In fact, they probably already did before firing him. The A.D. who hired him might have problems as well.

Aggies need to go get Traylor. Dude can scoop up every Texas talented player and they would save some money after the huge payout. Rumor has it Jeff is an Aggie guy. But is the name big enough?

Dude can work the portal. Has extreme connections with local coaches and kids. Could recruit the country selling ice cream to an Eskimo.

Interesting watch down in College Station.

one big reservation: no one has any idea how he'd do without a QB named Harris.

I think they go after the Oregon coach. Salary will be awesome, but the NIL dollars will be unlimited.

He already makes $7M a year. With what they have going up in Oregon I don't know if they have what it takes to lure him.

NIL dollars are going to be a big factor as it becomes a bigger part of college football. I think the home run hire would be Kiffin. Great name recognition and he has the contacts for the SEC recruiting areas.

I think Phil Knight will have a say in NIL money if/as needed.
