Tonight wraps up regular season conference play for Women's Soccer in the American. Coming in to tonight, UNT currently sits in the eighth spot in conference standings, with a conference record of 2-3-3 (9 points). SMU currently sits 4th overall at 4-3-1 (13 points). The American Athletic Conference Tournament, held next week in Lakewood Ranch, Florida will host eight teams, #1-2 consisting of the two division winners (currently sitting first and second overall), and seeds #3-8 based on overall conference points.

A win by UNT tonight would clinch a trip to Florida, and depending on the performance and tiebreakers vs. Charlotte (3-3-2, lost head-to-head) and FAU (3-2-3, head-to-head draw) can land a seed between 6-8.

If UAB (1-3-4) loses or ties against Temple (0-8) tonight, UNT will clinch a spot in the tournament.

However, if UAB wins, and UNT ties SMU, both UNT and UAB will each have 10 points. We did not play UAB this season, so the tiebreaker will depend on record vs. common opponents, which I did not calculate.

Finally, A UNT loss and a UAB win would mean the end of the season for the Mean Green.

So, it is important that everybody come out tonight at 7pm CDT to our final home game of the season. Go Mean Green!

Well... maybe next year.

Always hope, but this soccer team looks like the weakest in decades.  Maybe just better competition, but ether way: I would not be surprised if the Hedlund magic is over.

Turnout didn't seem any better despite a rival and the team pushing to break the facility attendance record, unfortunately. And unfortunately another sport for SMU to knock our teeth in at. Our ladies looked like they were just watching the ball at the start of each half, in which SMU scored in the first minutes of each. And then they score 30 seconds after our lone goal of the night.

Sucks we couldn't even make the Top 8 of the AAC after years of dominance in CUSA. We didn't even get a single victory against a team that was already in the AAC, only a couple of ties against teams we probably should have beaten (Tulsa, ECU).

Hope this is a wake-up call.

Sadly there will be no wake up call. This coach is most likely considered Untouchable and will stay as long as he wants to.
