Interesting, my only concern is does this allow P5 programs to stockpile guys for depth via NIL funding?  Like signing 2 defensive tackles who likely will not play for you unless you have an injury but treating them like a preferred walk on and throwing some cash their way to stick around for depth.

@Harry, I guess the question is how many true freshmen are going to make enough via NIL to cover the cost of a scholarship and then some if they're not worth the scholarship to begin with and why wouldn't they just take the full scholarship plus NIL funds they'd likely be getting elsewhere? This may be viable for some fringe FBS talents who don't have FBS offers but I don't see FBS talents with multiple full scholarship offers forgoing that unless they're getting 6 figure NIL deals and how many fringe FBS talents are getting 6 figure NIL deals out of high school? Same logic with most transfers.

I am also guessing the P5 conferences no longer enforce the "scholarship is good for four years" policy. I think we will start seeing even more players in the portal as new and old coaches purge their rosters.

Clever way for the top dogs to bring in several highly ranked players of the same position in the same class in order to make sure they end up with the best choice. As others have said, there are going to be many more players forced into the portal over the coming years.
