According to this, Southern Miss used the same eagle in the late 1970s. I believe we used it first, but I can’t confirm.

We're not promoting the SOW because the Players are Students are not.  Unless we're in the SEC or Big10, football players these days are deciding what helmets and uniforms they want and get to wear.  Maybe our actual logo needs changed to something the players, fans, and helmets embrace and like! and is not clip-art from somewhere else...

I was in Talons in the early 90s.  We were told the student body decided in the late 70s to change the name because it was too "warlike."  The costume wasn't great in the 80s and 90s, but there was NO support or budget from the athletic department during that era.

I was in that costume more than once, it was hot and smelly.  I imagine that the new one gets cleaned more often, now that there's money  🙂

That is a story the university made up. They, the university, changed it. Never any student input. Same thing with the removal of the Homecoming parade. A university decision that they can blame on student “comments”.

The original has a "dad bod", but both of them have a look that says "you don't want to mess with me". 

I'm fond of these since my uncle was in school at the time (and I was around 7) and he gave me a whole bunch of these stickers. I think they were the ones that you dipped in water and then applied. 

I seem to equate the top one with a "coach".  I either saw a version of this with a whistle around his neck or some other very similar image with a whistle.
