We should have hired Darrell Dickey in December when we had the chance. He would have been a PERFECT fit in Denton for his second stint here. Guess who did hire him? Georgia. Yes, the team that is now ranked #1 in the country. Obviously the folks in charge in Athens hold him in a higher regard that most of the people on this site. We should have welcomed him back to Denton when we had the chance. But instead we hired a coach that is going to be right up there with Dodge in terms of Suckage.

It isn’t like they hired him to be the OC or even a position coach. He is there as an analyst. And if you recall, Dickey set a pretty high bar for suckage in 2006 at that 7OT game.

I would not be an advocate of ever rehiring Darrell after the stunt he pulled on his way out. That being said, he has done a good job of changing his coaching style to fit the talent he has. In no way are the problems in A&M anything to do with him. If you look back, the more Jimbo got involved and pushed Darrell out, the worse the offense performed.

yep

Dickey worked at Texas A&M from 2018 through last season, serving as Jimbo Fisher’s offensive coordinator. Dickey did not call plays for the Aggies, as that was a responsibility Fisher took up. Dickey also worked with tight ends during his time in College Station, Texas.

This thread is ridiculous.

We have stacked conference titles and bowl wins since he left and completely abandoned black jerseys.

It would be easier just to join a conference in which every team has a losing record but us. We wouldn’t have to worry so much about elevating the program, just lower the competition and you can rattle off 26 straight conference wins. Maybe we could start a FBS conference with the 5 or 6 worst teams in the Southland, then we would truly be great.

Given what we've seen in the way of coaching the past four hires, this may be the only path forward.

And, strangely, those "lowly" schools Dickey rattled off 26 straight conference wins against (a feat not matched since) would likely run us off the field right now.
