Wow, it's a very interesting article. I don't believe it's behind a paywall. If you ever watch sports on TV, you should read this article. But, I'll throw out a few points from the article to pique your interest:

1. In the last nine years, ESPN has gone from 100 million households to just 55 million without Charter/Spectrum. That's about half of their subscription fees and a huge drop in ad revenue.

2. Charter/Spectrum have actually done the math - they make MORE money on the internet than on cable TV bundles. In past carriage disputes, ESPN could tell Charter/Spectrum customers to go find another provider like Fubo or YouTubeTV. This time, Charter/Spectrum are telling their own customers to go get a sports streaming service since Charter/Spectrum will actually net MORE money that way. 

3. While streaming is coming, so far it has NOT been a money maker. In public filings, it turns out ESPN has so far lost $11 BILLION on streaming. 

Read the article and get your popcorn to watch the fight. Because at some point, most people will no longer watch very many live games!
