For years, G5 players have been denied waivers that were handed out like candy to P5s - Most people did not care. Like most things, until it impacts their P5 programs, these coaches don't give a crap.

Mental health is important, but it is starting to get where that is added to anything schools are trying to get done.

Seriously, Brown has taken a player and was betting on the NCAA caving as it usually does with P5. He gets pissed for not getting his way. Notice how the whole statement is very short on actual details.

But I think the NCAA should generally approve less waivers. If in fact they didn't approve any wavers for any reason then everyone would know the rules and expectations would come back to what they ought to be and no judgement calls would be necessary. That would be good, because the NCAA has big conflicts of interests every time it makes judgment calls, making it easily attackable. Sadly that would take spine, which the NCAA -by the design of the P5 schools that control it- doesn't have.

The funny thing to me is the schools are literally the ones who vote on the rules and give the NCAA their marching orders. Mack can't really act like the NCAA is just going rogue. The Division I Council (made up of representatives of athletics department staff members) made a decision in January to tighten up the waiver process.

I admittedly know nothing about this case, but how can a transfer even be denied in the transfer portal era?

He already used his free transfer and they filed a waiver that would keep him from having to sit out a year.
