Great fan base

Very good program 

Great rivalry with ECU

 

Can't think of any reason it should be a no unless you're part of that group that doesn't want to see anyone else get opportunities and always wants to complain when other schools don't want us in their conference and then do the same thing to other schools

They’re only being considered because of the viewership they draw and ESPN wanting the Army vs Navy game when the CBS contract runs out in a few years.

It seems like all programs are asked to join in hopes that they can add and bring something to the conference. Don't you think our proximity to the DFW market was vital to us getting in, especially when Aresco knew SMU wanted out?

You get Army's never-terrible-football, and THAT level of viewership, and you have a better-than-solid prospect for most conferences.  They don't have to be a football powerhouse to be valuable.

It certainly helped.  We had just finished our great indoor facility, newish on-campus football stadium, several newish olympic sports facilities, major recruiting area, 45K students.   All reasons they didn't invite La Tech, WKU, ULL, FIU, et al instead.

1997-2015 had one winning season. In that stretch had a winless season and two seasons with one win.

With recent rule changes making it harder to run the triple option and NIL and the transfer portal, I really question how good the Service Academies will be in the new CFB landscape. Being forced to run offenses more in line with everyone else will make it easier to defend them, and they won't be able to take advantage of NIL and the transfer portal as well as everyone else. 

Not saying they'll suck, but I think they'll have a very hard time getting to the top of the conference.

It may take this AD and HC a couple of years, or maybe sooner, but based on what I have seen so far I am pretty confident they have the skills to put us on a level playing field with ULM.  Dare we dream.

Conference membership is like getting married, most folks go in thinking this is till death do us part, and Lord help those hitchin' up till something better comes along. Do you really want to marry Army because they have a really good 56 year old coach who will either eventually retire or catch the attention of an AD with a much fatter budget?


10 of the 13 schools who got together in 1933 to form the SEC are still there. Six of the eight who kicked off the MWC 25 years ago are still there.

Army makes a lot of sense because there's just no one who might be willing to join in the eastern and central time zones who brings more TV value or helps home gate more. Land Army and who knows, maybe AFA becomes willing to defect if the whole Oregon State / Washington State thing doesn't go well and someone like Colorado State is willing to come along.

Just never know which stop is going to be the last stop.

8 of the Pac12 were in the conference for over 100 years, until they all just decided it wa$n't the right place anymore.

That's not EXACTLY true. The Pacific Coast Conference cracked up after the 1958 season with Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington leaving and over the next few years let the other three back in and they really only let them back in because the proposed Airplane Conference that would include those five didn't get off the ground.

So three of the five who formed the second big time western conference in hopes of joining a cross-national conference in 1959 got their wish this year in joining Big 10 along with Oregon and the other two got their wish by joining ACC.

Meanwhile Arizona and Arizona State get rejoin their old Border Conference foes Texas Tech. Old Skyline members Utah, BYU and Colorado get back together as well.

Sometimes you break up and get back together.

Watching Army beat UTSA last week in the AlamoDome would certainly change a few minds.  Their new Offense Coordinator has revolutionized the Black Knights offense.  

One of the best Game Days ever in Denton since I’ve been a fan (starting in 1972) was when Army came to DATCU Stadium in 2018(?).  Army brought a few thousand fans that day & the Mean Green won with a last second field goal.
