Without understanding how much money is involved with pending units and other payouts, I wonder if one sticking point with Washington State and Oregon State is that they need to continue as the Pac conference to preserve the units and the payouts. Could their line in the sand be that whichever conference they join would need to merge or become part of the Pac?

There is going to need to be a lot of lawyering happen to sort out all the assets from the liabilities and pending lawsuits, plus ownership.

My GUESS is that OSU and WSU wanted a bunch of concessions and elevated revenue and Arresco rightfully said no. They are trying to maintain their current revenue and that isn’t realistic.

What’s your issue with Liberty?

Here, because Cerebus has spelled this out better than I can.  Obviously, these are dated and Liberty is now a part of CUSA.

My problems with Liberty stem from their academics.  Several big programs are still unaccredited.  No tenure makes you a junior college, not a place of higher education. Their president has neither PHD or a Masters, the job is his becasue his name ends in Falwell Jr.

1) Ian McCaw is the AD of Liberty, a school we have a home and home series with.

2) Every once in a while I hear voices saying we should "cut corners" or "play like the big boys" when it comes to recruiting, enforcing rules, etc.  F that.  This is where that leads you.  I wouldn't trade any level of athletic success if it meant having to stain the reputation of North Texas.

Liberty doesn't have tenure.  That is junior college level.

This is like debating which girl is uglier.  Yeah, one of them has a lazy eye, however THE OTHER ONE DOESN'T HAVE A HEAD.   It's a non starter debate.

Liberty is at a much lower level than UTSA, Troy, ULM, UIW, Boise... anyone else you can think of.

Liberty doesn't have tenure, and some of their bigger programs are "self accredited".

I don't like playing Liberty for the same reason I wouldn't want to play ITT Tech or a JC.  I find it distasteful to play a school where academics are so limited.

Memberships decisions are made by university presidents, not athletic directors.  They do not want to be affiliated with the academics at Liberty. For one example, their business school is not AACSB accredited.  That has zero to do with religion:  In Texas alone SMU,  TCU, Abilene Christian, St Mary's, St. Thomas, and Trinity are AACSB accredited.   But Liberty failed to get that accreditation.

Liberty is desperate to get into ANY FBS conference, but none of them want them.  In a world where NMSU, Idaho, and UMASS can't get into a FBS conference, I don't see how Liberty is going to get into one.  Especially when you couple their hiring of Baylor's coverup AD to their academic problems.

You can't gloss over the fact that they don't grant tenure either.  Tenure is what gives faculty freedom to express views that the administration may not agree with.  That can't be done there, on purpose, the administration wants total control of views expressed.  This is something that is central to American education, and is even done down to the Junior College level.  But not Liberty.

The schools religion isn't the reason I have a problem with Liberty.  The academic administrations decision to not give tenure so they can control all teaching by the faculty is a major problem for me.  It is more or less the cornerstone of western academics,

I thought ULM was a pretty poor academic school.  I thought Boise St was a train wreck.  But both of them are way, WAY ahead of Liberty.

We'll never be in the same conference as Liberty. College presidents decide who gets into what conference. I am sure Smatresk would rather burn Apogee to the ground than be in the same conference as them.

Liberty: The votes are cast by the university presidents. No way they vote to be associated with them. Look beyond creationism. No tenure. The president doesn't have a PHD. It's in effect a giant diploma mill.

No way the CUSA presidents vote to be associated with Liberty. I know for a fact the NT academic leadership would burn down Apogee before agreeing to be in the same conference as Libery, where faculty are required to sign documentation stating they believe the earth is ~6000 years old.

Well, a few things there about Liberty based off these copy and pastes:

1. They were started in the 1970's. Accreditation takes years and years to build up throughout entire academia.

2.They don't want their professors spouting off nonsensical BS, rather than facts, as seen in oh let's just say our opponent tomorrow, Cal-Berkley.

3. CUSA presidents did vote them in, ironically. Granted, there was a shift change in presidents in the voting, given realignment.

4. Nepotism is a reason to boycott a product? Better rid all of your belongings and go live in the woods.

5. As far as the president not being academically qualified, that is indeed weird.

I have zero ties to Liberty. I do know that they invest heavily in their athletics and that they have a good supportive fan base. It seems like a reasonable add to the AAC, granted not at the top of the pecking order.
