What does the ACC gain by adding SMU?  What does Florida State, boston college, or duke by playing in the same conference as SMU?  SMU has a small media footprint, those big ACC schools have nothing to gain, in fact it might actually cost them more money to add them.

It's all about more free revenue to the existing ACC members.

If Stanford and Cal take reduced revenue and Smut takes no media revenue for 7 years, that's about $60M extra for the ACC per year.  They are trying to decide how to split it.

But if FSU and Clemson thinks they are $30m short each year compared to the SEC, another $5mil won't make much difference to them eventually wanting to leave the conference.

If this was an obvious decision, the vote would have gone through.  But it keeps getting delayed.  Tweets floating around that they don't want to meet until they know it will approve.

I suspect the "yes" vote they need is not budging.  Is it FSU?

Another tweet suggested UNC and NCSU have changed their votes to yes.  The delay is for the ACC members to agree how to split the new revenue, plus decide if the new members will be all-sports or only some sports.

Letting smu into the ACC will diminish the image of that conference and college football overall.

They haven’t done anything to earn it. They’re flashing money, tempting others to look the other way, to forget about integrity and take the bribe.

They will contaminate that conference.

I personally prefer not to be associated with smu.

What’s happening with realignment makes no sense. It’s insane. Destroying natural rivalries and making it almost impossible for fans to travel to many away games because of the additional expense.

It won’t last long. The dollar is hanging on by a thread.
So, be thankful for what you have and hopefully we get a full season of UNT Football.

I don't know exactly what the ACC gains with SMU  except a bigger foot in Texas recruiting. I think that all 3 schools have been accepted based the how is the additional revenue to be allocated. I can only assume that the 4 hold outs want most if not all of it given to them. All the AAC Presidents Committee that is putting a proposal for distribution need to do is satisfy one of them with out pissing the rest of the conference members off and the deal is done.

I'm not sure you understand how this works. Whores get paid, they don't do the paying.

We spend money, we get prestige and other benefits back

Nah….you’re on your hands and knees begging for a trick because you know you’re way past your prime.

I’ll take the ban. It had to be said.

SMU paid their way to the top, props to them, however they got there, they got there. I do believe SMU will be the Vanderbilt of the ACC though. I can’t wait to see the crowd shots from visiting fans😂😂😂

I will be happy to see the highland park hand humpers, money hungry mustang mounters, privileged pony pecker puffing alums spending all that cash to be everyone’s easy W/ homecoming in the ACC☺️☺️

Have i missed it? has anything happened? Any Official word since the folks started saying this was a "done deal"  6 days ago? Time kills deals. I am starting to think this is more likely to fall apart than to come together.

Latest info on ACC expansion....

Sources: 'Continued momentum' for ACC to add schools

Early Monday morning, ACC officials were working on gathering the league's presidents and chancellors on a call to further discuss and potentially vote on the issue.

After a weekend of conversations, a source told ESPN that the details of the potential additions are "only in pencil," but it's trending in the direction of happening. One of four ACC schools that had previously objected to the additions -- Clemson, Florida State, NC State and North Carolina -- needed to change its vote, and that is expected to happen this week.

Good for SMU if they pull this off. I wish we could do it, but it is what it is.

I will also provide the corollary, which is that we should never play them again. Make them miss out on any local or in-state games.

Stanford, the bell-cow of the group, and Cal are proposing to forgo a majority of revenue distribution for multiple years if they receive an invitation to the conference. The schools have agreed to start at 30% of distribution, or about $8 million each. SMU will forgo at least seven years without distribution and as many as nine. However, those figures are fluid and discussions are ongoing.

Between NCAAT credits and other non-TV related revenue SMU will make more than the $7m due via The American's TV rights package annually.  Also, donors have earmarked roughly $150m immediately to be deployed upon official acceptance into the ACC.

I say "Buyer Beware" to the ACC if they include fan-less Smut in their expansion deal.   When Syracuse visits Smut and less than 10K are in the stands, and when less than 100 Smut fans show up in ACC stadiums then reality will hit what they have allowed in.

Fair enough but if the hypothetical P5-G5 split actually happened they have possibly bought their spot at the table, can't argue with that.

I do believe donor fatigue will set in, and in short order. I know SMU has some donors with deep pockets but how long will they donate at that level while the football team wins 3-5 games.

Nothing could be further from the truth re: donor fatigue.

Just speaking anecdotally here but the Mustang Club and other fundraising arms have been inundated with donations and pledges in the last few weeks.  Also, prominent donors have already earmarked over $100m for the next several years contingent upon ACC invitation.

This will be a catalyst for historic fundraising at SMU across the board.

Speaking of fund raising, I just watch "30 for 30" a few hours ago and the 2 hour program was the history of SMU's " Pony Express " and how they got the " death Penalty." Interesting timing.

‘College’ football doesn’t even live up to its name anymore. I will be happy when we are finally free of trying to keep up with these maniacs. If smu thinks they are getting into the P5 side of a P5-G5 split they are sure going to be sad when they find the Big Leagues have slimmed down to 32 teams. What a waste of money. The ACC is full of teams that can’t stay on the field with the real powers. Eventually those will actually never be on the same field. See ya later.

The Longhorns have done the least with the most. While not a P5 program I always though La. Tech did the most with the least.
