Me either.  I think he got a crap deal from SL throwing him into the first game a couple of years ago when he had only been on campus for about 3 1/2 weeks.

I have said this for a while. It killed any confidence he had. But that was Seth's problem. He did the same thing with Mason Fine. Fine worked out better.

I'm not sleeping on Jace Ruder.....

I know not to put a lot of stock in spring practice, but he looked the most consistent out of all of them. Rogers had a great spring game but looked pretty pedestrian up until that point.

I'm glad we finally have a head coach (heck even a QB coach) that understand QBs. Doubt Morris ever puts a QB in the same position Seth did, good, bad, or indifferent. Excited to see the steps forward our QBs take this year and who our starting QB is going to end up being.

From a purely hindsight, is 20/20
If Seth doesn't pull the trigger on Alec Morris and they stay with him ....
Fine could have been red-shirted
Mason would have got the extra Covid year and played 5 full years plus a Covid year

He'd be our Frank Harris. You're right though. I think Fine would have ended up even better, too. He was a true freshman from a very small Oklahoma school. He took a huge leap and his freshman year was really just him learning the ropes. He didn't throw a whole lot (compared to the following 3 years) and he wasn't particularly productive. I think Alec Morris could have given us Fine's freshman production that year.

Devil's advocate: Fine might not have worked out.

Fine seems to work better when thrown in the fire.  Some people react positively to that.

He wasn't really asked to do a whole lot, though, and the expectations were low. Is that really being thrown in the fire?

Fine's expectations are not low, and he probably didn't anticipate being put out there so soon.

Picking nits here but at this point it's returning North Texas quarterback Jace Ruder.

Really funny how Ruder is referenced as the "transfer" when this will be his 3rd season at UNT.

As a true freshman with a first year headcoach coming off a 1 win season? Little was asked of him that first year.

I guess it depends on the angle.  From our perspective, we didn't expect much.  But what about Fine's perspective?

Fine was an 18 year old kid out of a small town, asked to start at a D1 football program with only a few weeks under his belt.  I don't know how Fine could NOT walk out there and feel it.  I don't think OUR expectations mattered.

I remember marching my first college half time show.  It was insane, but I was just one more ant horn player out there lost in a crowd.  I think Fine's position as a starting D1 QB must have been wild.
