* UNT was among the original 4 selected for expansion by the AAC. The idea was to expand back to 12, but in the end FAU & Charlotte were also added.

* UNT's commitment to spending on athletics cemented their spot with UAB, UTSA, & Rice.

* Aresco insisted that expanding the AAC's presence in Texas was a top priority for the AAC's expansion.

Aresco is one of the better Conference leaders that I have ever been exposed to.  Heard him speak in person earlier this year and he is top notch. I hope the AAC can keep him.

But the background used there just seems………….dirty.

It was a priority because the MWC was considering possible expansion into Texas also.   This blocked them from entry into Texas' 3 major markets.

From what I have seen, the MWC was very interested in North Texas and UTSA but was not ready to make a move. Aresco beat them to the punch.

I posted this in a separate thread but I did find it interesting when he said Houston only won it once.  Memphis won it more than I had expected.  And never realized Temple was that good enough to win the league.  Makes me disappointed we got stuck with sad sack Seth all these years and no championships under our belt.

Wasn't it Houston playing against Memphis for those championships?  Its still pretty hard to get to the championship game in that league.

Actually, getting picked for last place is a blessing.  If there is where you finish they agree that you just inherited the worst players.  If you improve by a place or two, the experts will say that he got the most out of the players he inherited.

Houston beat Temple in 2015 to win the AAC and ended up beating Fla State in Peach Bowl.  Herman's only good year winning off someone else's recruits.
