Huggins is delusional.

"However, although the press statements purport to have resignation communications directly from Coach Huggins to you and/or the Athletic Director, Coach Huggins has never communicated his resignation to you, the Athletic Director, or anyone at WVU. To the contrary, we understand that the purported ‘resignation’ is incredibly based on a text message from Coach Huggins’ wife.”

"What is clear, however, is that on the evening of June 17, 2023, Mr. Huggins met with members of the men’s basketball staff and student-athletes to announce that he would no longer be coaching the team. The same evening at 9:38 p.m., following a series of written and verbal communications with Mr. Gianola, who was acting as his counsel, Mr. Huggins clearly communicated his resignation and retirement to the University in writing via email (not text message as asserted in your letter).

"Later that same night at 9:42 p.m., Wren Baker, the University’s Athletics Director, with a cc to me as General Counsel, wrote back via email, accepting Mr. Huggins’ resignation and retirement. Both parties have reasonably relied on that resignation and retirement notification in a number of ways since then. Moreover, until Mr. Campbell’s letter of yesterday, 20 days have passed since Mr. Huggins’ resignation and retirement submission with no claim by Mr. Huggins, or his other two lawyers, that he did not in fact resign and retire."

Then in another article:

"Today, I have submitted a letter to President Gordon Gee and Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker informing them of my resignation and intention to retire as head men's basketball coach at West Virginia University effective immediately,"  Huggins said in a statement, as reported by WSAZ in Huntington, W.V.

I respectfully disagree @UNTLifer

If the news reports and Huggins attorneys are indeed correct, and his resignation email did come from an account belonging to his wife and not directly from him there may be legal recourse for him.   If what Coach Huggins and his attorneys are saying is true, and no other resignation letter exists, this was extremely sloppy on WVU's part and reflects poorly on their athletic department.

Based on the above quote I put in bold, he admitted to submitting a letter.  He is a liar either way.  If he did submit a letter, then WVU should produce a copy to end all speculation.  If he didn't, then he has let lawyers get in his head and he is just chasing $$$$ at this point.  It is becoming obvious that Gee and Baker didn't follow the letter of the law, and that Huggins is a liar and not a man of his word.

If you go read the details and timeline WVU released, it’s actually kind of hard to find a misstep on their part. It sounds like WVU conceded some things to make it easier for Huggins during some hard days of his life.

Moreover, Mr. Gianola specifically requested the University send language that the University would find acceptable in such a resignation notification. In an effort to accommodate Mr. Huggins, the University agreed to accept the notification from Mrs. Huggins’ email account and to send language we would find acceptable.”

Prior to submitting his notification to the University, on the evening of June 17, 2023, Mr. Huggins met with members of the men’s basketball staff and student- athletes to announce that he would no longer be coaching the team. We understand that Mr. Huggins specifically told the team that he was resigning.“
