If any of you saw the news, last Thursday the small city of Perryton, TX was devastated by an EF-3 tornado.  I lived and worked there for almost 5 years, and still own property there, and have several friends there.  The storm hit without warning, forming less than 1/4 away on the NW side of town, near a mobile home community.  The tornado then dropped down on the mobile home community, destroying it, and killing an 11 year old boy.  The storm then tracked SE, over one of the poorest parts of the town, then made a slight left turn at Highway 15 at the grain silos.  The storm then continued across Main St (US Hwy 83), destroying a few businesses, and tracking directly over the volunteer fire department, police department, and city hall, destroying them.  The storm continued SE over Murphy Park, and then over the east part of town, hitting the other poorer section of town, before leaving the area.

The storm killed three people and put at least 100 in the hospital, at least two of them with life threatening injuries.  The city is in need of donations, both monetarily and supply wise.  I will post a link to the Perryton National Bank's relief fund.  I am also planning to go up there this weekend.  If you would like to help, please donate, or you can also Paypal or Venmo me a donation for supplies.  If you leave me your information, I will provide you with a receipt for your records and for taxes.

If you do choose to help, in any way, thank you.

Brian Hetzer,

Perryton Police Department
