If this is the one, then I am putting my faith in the staff for someone who was a backup on a bad UMass team. @TheReal_jayD Am I missing something on this guy

@BillySee58 talks some about transfers, sometimes IDing guys who were career bench guys at P5s (who never help us in Denton either), vs guys that excelled at a place that was at our level or lower, and end up excelling in Denton too.

this particular case seems right in the middle: didn’t excel but also didn’t sit on the bench the entire time.

I’m alright with taking a chance on this one if all we need from him is rotation snaps.

It does seem like he can help us with some depth. Who knows maybe the change of scenery motivates him and he steps up his game

This is an established D1 rotation player. Not a superstar, but he can definitely handle snaps in the AAC and still has upside.

How many high school DE’s have we signed over the years who have never even seen the field for us?

This is an example of how the transfer portal is changing recruiting as in years past we might have reached on a low-rated high school guy for this roster spot.
Nice to be on this side of the portal for once.

Well said.  Love his size and you are correct he has a lot better chance to help us than a high school kid.
