Players Who Have Transferred

Besides NIL, the main reason given for transferring is to put them in a better position to play at the next level. Have any of our players that moved on made it to the Pros based on what they did at the next school?

0. Rico Bussey & Cam Johnson both got NFL tryouts and may have hung around on a practice squad for a while. Probably the same would have happened if they'd stayed at UNT. Those are the only 2 can think of.

On the NFL Network and ESPN, the footage they used for Bussey was from UNT. He didn't seem to have any highlights from Hawaii.

Pro scouts find talent wherever it is located.

Examples:

Larry Allen.  Arguably one of the best OL in Cowboys' history played at Sonoma State.  HOF

Kurt Warner.  Northern Iowa undrafted to Super Bowl Champ.  HOF

Tony Romo.  Eastern Illinois

Ben Roethlisberger. Miami (OH)

Brett Favre. Southern Miss

Walter Payton. Jackson St.

Jerry Rice. MS Valley St.

I think some players overlook the benefit of the exposure that playing at their current school can bring them, where they may get lost in the mix at a Power 5 school. If you’re a player who looks to be a sure draft pick, I understand looking to raise your positioning. If you are like most G5 players, a prospect whose best hope is to get picked up as a free agent, then are you giving up exposure that could be helpful where you may get lost in the mix at another school and conference?

Dwayne Thomas and Mercury Morris, West Texas State (Now West Texas A&M)

Rayfield Wright, Fort Valley State
