For once the cougar troll makes a good point, he just doesn't know how to articulate it (he's from Houston, so you can't blame him.) He's not saying we can't win a one-off or even make a miracle run in the NCAAT, we see that kind of thing every now and then. But unless you want that to be a flash in the pan you need years of hard work by the administration to get everything into place, and consistently make deep runs. Coaching, recruiting, facilities, donations, marketing, NIL, Social Media, and most importantly investment and a strong push for athletics to be successful. Those are the things you need to be a known and respected brand.

Just look at the budgets of the AAC members that were successful, and we have a path to continue to improve. The first link is a bit old but is still a good reference:

The hardest thing at our level is that when you do find success it's hard to keep it, but instead of letting us slide back down and starting over we need a strong administration that will set up the next coach to be successful.

A little dated, but very informational. Look at the pocket of programs that are around us in regards to funding basketball....

I feel like we're pushing bare minimum standards into our basketball programs when we have an all-time great coach while on an all-time great run in our basketball history. We're selling ourselves short as we are content on just floating around at a mediocre budget, at best. An opportunity has presented itself to our university and we're pissin down our leg.

The lowest team in the AAC in ECU at $3.94m which is about a 25% increase, and Memphis dwarfs us at $8.21M. Hopefully the conference payout helps, but we need to invest in a big way.

After a CBI title, our only NCAA tourney win, 2 regular season CUSA titles, 1 CUSA tournament title, and 5 20-win seasons in 6 years, why would things change now?

I have this not-so-baseless belief that it takes consistent winning across 10+ years before you really establish your brand/community for the long term.

Years ago I dug around the history of some of CFB's best fanbases. many of them had a great stretch of 10+ years of winning.  60s, 70s, 80s.

I don't know if it will work for us, but it gives me hope that it can happen.  It just takes longer than 4-5 years.   Maybe there is something to be said about winning across multiple generations of college students, which I assume take about 4-5 years each.
