A well-traveled College assistant with some good programs.  This will be his first head coaching job.

UTA could just publicly announce they screwed the pooch when they fired Scott Cross.

But did they? His norm seems to be finishing between 3rd and 5th in conference. I hope that doesn’t really wow anyone.

Lol. They fired him one season after winning the sun belt regular season title.

Scott Cross just completed his second 20-win season since leaving UTA, being in the same conference UTA just was booted out of. UTA just finished firing its second coach since firing Cross.

That doesn’t change the fact that looking at his entire career, a betting man would put their money on him finishing 3rd to 5th in conference any given year. It’s also worth noting he followed up that regular season title finishing 4th the next year.

And finished tied for 4th/5th in conference each of those years.

This is a reflection of the hires they made after Cross. It doesn’t mean they “screwed the pooch” for aspiring for more and choosing to move on from him.

I don’t get the constant propping up of Cross. His teams have always been fine, not great. His coaching record is slightly above .500. I’m not willing to chalk all of that up to facilities.

Yes, please, let's discuss all the advantages to recruiting players to play Division 1 basketball on a stage because your school has absolutely no facilities. It was the one place in America that players could fall over the edge into an orchestra pit.UTA Athletics on Twitter: "https://t.co/liXfnoFC5g" / Twitter

WAIT. WHATTTTTTTT. That's not some absurd photoshop??

UTA is beginning to actually invest after like 7 years of not caring that much. I think they make a tournament run in the next few years if they can recruit like they used to and retain some guys they have now.

Promising future there for sure, love the hires so far

They are also bringing football back and most likely will try to land back in the SunBelt once they do.

They’ve been talking that talk since at least 2018 (DMN). Is there any real traction on that, or is it just a dream?

This is where they currently play?!  That’s wild!  I thought this was their old arena.

This is the old Texas Hall

I would be very skeptical of UTA bringing back football. There seems to be no interest in their administration and the low turnout by the students in a recent referendum doesn't support this rumor.

I found some random info.  UTA students recently passed a student government referendum 1004-625 to look into raising student athletic fees and investigate the feasibility of future football.

1629 voter turnout? On a sports fee, from a student population of 39K+.

...not a great look.
